I've killed the Maps app.

Running v11 firmware, I downloaded the Maps loader and it told me I didn't have the latest version. I downloaded and installed the Maps update from the Nokia site, and now Maps doesn't work at all. I get as far as the startup screen and the progress bar gets to 30% and then the app just closes.

Has anyone seen this issue before? Or does anyone know how I can uninstall and reinstall the original version of maps?

Thanks

I believe Nokia recommends installing the latest firmware before updating the Maps application. Not sure it is a must, though?

Try visiting www.smart2go.com and download from there instead. It should be the same package, but it isn't. Maybe you'll have better luck with this one?

thanks for the response - I tried to download from smart2go but got the same results. I have the latest firmware - for an Orange UK phone. I'm not keen to recode the phone just yet as it's only a week old. Dunno when Orange will move to v12.

I'm guessing that the version I'm using doesn't work with v11 - does anyone know where I can get the old version of maps?

Thanks

Thanks - tried the hard reset but it didn't work (although maps looked different in that the progress bar was back to the top of the screen instead of the bottom). I think I need to find the old software, but I just don't know how.

Sure, a hard reset will work. But of course you would have to clean the memory card FIRST, or all the data written by updated Maps will still be messing up everything.

Hate to say this, but this incident proves again:

1st read the instructions, before installing software onto your device!

It was well mentioned, that you should have the latest firmware installed!

If you don't know if you've the latest firmware: ask how to check this!

Hope you can get it right; have you tried a renstall of the firmware via Nokia Software Updater?

Make a back-up of your contacts on your memory-card, and do a CLEAN install of the firmware . . .

In fairness - as I pointed out, I'm running on Orange UK, and v11 is the latest firmware.

That said - I took the memory card out and it works ok - so there's obviously something there I need to look into.

Thanks

Just delete the folders \Private\20001f63 and \cities from the microSD. That's where Maps stores the data.
