iSync, Leopard and Nokia N73

17 replies · 17,226 views · Started 27 October 2007

on Mac OS 10.4.10, I was using iSync without any problems on my Mac with my Nokia N73...

today I upgraded to Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) and now, my Nokia N73 is not able to sync with the bluetooth connection... it's ok with the USB cable.
I tried to recreate the bluetooth configuration on my Mac for my N73... I can pair, but I can not explore phone content or I can not sync with iSync...

I tried with my Motorola Razr V3... it works fine... so I know that my bluetooth module is ok.

what can be the problem?

on a side note, I tried on an other computer... a brand new iMac with Leopard installed... I have the same problem... bluetooth communication does not work between the computer and my Nokia N73...

anyone tried yet with his/her Nokia phone and Mac OS 10.5?!?

A side question, I am still on Tiger, how to upgrade to Leopard?

go to the Apple Store (online or in a "real" store) and buy the software... in the USA or Canada, the price is 129$... shipping should be free (it was free for me in Canada)

Hello zadigre
I have exactly the same problem that you describe. I also have the nokian73 and osx leopard. I have searched the whole Internet but i cant find anything that solves my Problem. You wrote, that isync works with usb cable, can you tell me, how to install it?
My nokia is shown in the usb-list, but isync only accepts bluetooth devices.
Please help me!

I removed the pairing on my Mac and on my N73... I pluged the usb cable in the computer and my phone... and I added a phone in iSync... that's it! 😉 So yes it works fine with the USB cable in iSync, without any plugins...

the problem seems to be with newer firmware only... because with old firmware, there are no problem...

Nokia is supposed to be aware of this and will release a new firmware to fix this problem in the next few weeks...

thanks for the information Zadigre.
But i cant use Isync with usb Cable. I have deleted the pairing information in my n73 and in my imac. also when i disable bluetooth at my imac, Isync will not add a new device to its list. I can only use the data-exchange mode but no isync

when you plug the usb cable, do you chose "pc-suite" on your phone ?

I did it again today, and it works really fine...

hello!
after re-installing Leopard again (caused by some other problems) Usb-Isync works fine now. Thank you ,Zadigre.

Does the 10.5.1 Update, which was released yesterday, fix the Isync Problem?
Has anyone tested it yet?
I can not tes tit, because i am away from my mac for one Week.

no it does not fix it... it's the first thing I tried after the update...

I think we have to wait after Nokia to give us a new firmware update that correct this problem...

My guess it is because of this

With iSync if you add a device in BT it will only work over BT and not USB
If you add a device using USB, it will only work over USB and not BT
So once you commit to a sync mode transport, you are stuck with it
You can however, remove the device, and then add it back with the opposite transport

This is an Apple iSync feature. It is also true for both Tiger and Leopard OS.

no this is not the problem... I never used usb sync on my Nokia N73 before...
Bluetooth was working fine with Tiger... but after I installed Leopard, bluetooth stoped working only for my Nokia N73... still fine with my Motorola Razr V3.
My Nokia N73 can pair, but no bluetooth communication can be done... I can not explore content of my phone with bluetooth...

Yea that could be because you have earlier tried with USB connection and that's why it is not detecting your BT one.
Can you try by deleting the USB mode and then connecting again by BT mode. That might help.

I never tried the USB connection before... I always used bluetooth until I got some problem with Leopard...

I already tried to delete all usb connection...

the problem is not with iSync directly... even "explore phone content" does not work over bluetooth... it's really a problem with bluetooth connection between my phone and my Mac... I am not the only one having this problem... check http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5647902 for more details...

I upgraded to Leopard in early November and iSync was OK. But now I have a similar problem to those described for the N73. I noticed it after the two security updates were installed. I can pair my phone and see the files on it but I cannot sync. If I launch the Mac app it just does nothing as it cannot connect to the phone. If I force it from the phone I get a message that the Mac is not a supported device.

My phone software is up to date.
