E-90 + BB Connect

Hi All,

1st post so bear with me. Recently received my E90, and have set it up to run with my BB Server. All is fine and dandy. I was however wondering if there is a way to get the E90 to use BB WAP for browsing as well. Works fine for all our BB devices, and as we are on an unlimited Data Contract, it makes sense to browse using the same settings as the BB devices. I know that the BB Connect software doesnt allow this by default, but is there a hack or custom connection which could be made in order to get this working?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Regards

Just to check your terminology, by 'BB' you mean Broadband, and by 'WAP' you mean Wireless Access Point?

In which case, yes, it is certainly possible to use WiFi rather than GPRS to browse the internet, if available. Unfortunately it's my other half who has the E90, so I can't give you the details.

In what way is it not working, if you've already set up the E90 to work with broadband? And exactly what is it you want to do, since I'm confused by this bit: "we are on an unlimited Data Contract, it makes sense to browse using the same settings as the BB devices."?

I confess to being "the other half", and I thought you meant BlackBerry by BB (about which I know nothing), so no wonder we're all confused.

The E90 doesn't actually have the old WAP browser that used to be shipped with S60 devices, so I'm not sure what benefit you feel you'll get from using a WAP connection.

Let us know what you're trying to achieve, and maybe somebody can help.

Julie

Apologies for the confusion.

By BB Server, I mean our corporate BlackBerry Enterprise server. By Wap browsing, I meant using the Blackberry Access Point which is created on the Nokia Device using the Blackberry connect software. It only seems to work for the email side of thinks, and I cannot seem to get it to use the Blackberry AP Connection in the E90 for GPRS browsing using the standard browser.

On the normal Blackberry devices, 8100, 8820 etc, you can both get your emails
AND browse the web using the Blackberry GPRS Wap connections.

Regards

Thanks for clarifying - and I can confirm that I can't help you 😉

All I can say from reading other forums and threads is: whatever you do, don't update your firmware! There's no BlackBerry Service support on firmware version 7.40.1.2 at all.

Julie

According to the E90 firmware update thread, apparently there is now a working BB Connect update.
Still don't know the answer to your question, but that seems to be one roadblock out of the way.
