Downloading Gmail on 3 UK

All,

I am trying to setup my E61 to download Gmail using POP. I chose not to use the Gmail application so I can browse and reply while offline on the tube.

While I am able to use the account perfectly using WiFi, when I connect to 3 it keeps trying to download mail from Gmail and eventually fails. Curiously, sending emails works just fine.

I am using the default settings from the phone's wizard to create a Gmail account. I am on Mix&Match with Internet Max.

Thanks,
Luiz

Today I got a 3 PAYG sim card so that I could use Internet Monthly for only 5pm. I could browse the internet with no problem. However, I could not download email from my email accounts using IMAP/SSL (port 993), although Mail for Exchange worked, and 3 support was totally useless (according to them nothing will work unless you have a 3 handset). Therefore, I will be sticking with T-Mobile Web-n-Walk. I suspect 3 are blocking some ports such as 993.

I have just tried again and IMAP/SSL (port 993) times out on a number of accounts (including GMail), but IMAP (port 143) works fine.

I was using mobile mail on 3 until sevenweb changed their servers and it hasnt worked since, i currently use the gmail app installed and access the mailbox, have you enabled pop forwarding on your gmail account? also gmail is designed for users to keep all their mail on their servers, hence the massive mailbox limit.

As suspected and now confirmed by Three, they are blocking IMAP/SSL (port 993) so you cannot use IMAP/SSL on Three with Gmail or any other email accounts. The same probably applies to POP3/SSL (port 995).

It may be possible to access Gmail using the Gmail application, but I think that I should decide how I access my email accounts not the mobile network!

I will be sticking with T-Mobile Web-n-Walk as it is superior to anything offered by the other UK mobile networks.

hi,

I'm using a nokia e65 on 3, with x-sereis silver, and I can access my IMAP account, which is SSL.
