There should be some sort of warrenty. They might have to send it away for a long time. Call Nokia first. Don't give them the serial number of your phone. If they wont fix it. Take it to the place you got it from. Hopefully if its on a contract they will replace it, if you act dumb or cry really loud and scare away customers this will increase your chances. If all that fails and its just the screen thats pooped, jump on ebay and get a replacement screen. There very easy to change over OOo and don't forget to get some really small screw drivers (T6 size i think)
*nods*

A Nokia Care Centre (NCC) should be able to replace the broken case and display. However if you don't have insurance, there will be a charge.
Try calling your home insurance company - you could tell them it was on the floor INSIDE your house and you stood on it - it might then be covered by your home accidental damage policy.

And just pray that they don't find this thread 😉

I very much doubt it will be covered. These kinds of devices are usually not unless you specifically request it. On a side note, everyone should look into this cos my home contents provider added my N95 to the insurance (covering accidental damage, loss, theft and airtime abuse) and it didn't increase my premium AT ALL!
Compared to the £7 a month T-Mobile wanted thats awesome!
ok cheers guys
when you say cheap (the screens on ebay), how cheap do you mean?
The thing is, im a student ... so very poor, and also, not living at home, which rules out any chance of me claiming it on house insurance.
I bought the phone from o2 online, so theres not gonna be any shouting etc. iv heard o2 are pussies, so they will probably replace it, not sure though.
i was thinking, if i opt in for insurance with o2, wait a few weeks, then just get it replaced that way? the phone does work, and switching back and forth around landscape and portrait should let me be able to use it alright, it really is just the screen.
sigh, im not gonna even explain what i did to break it :frown:

Take it to a Nokia Service Center and just ask them for a rough idea on price. Since you say the phone still works its fairly certainly just a screen replacement so they should be able to estimate the cost fairly accurately. It would certainly be better to get them to do it but if it's gonna cost the earth it might not be an option.
yeah i think im gonna go into a few independent shops too around here and ask them. theres nother problem though, the slider is not as smooth as it was either, it kinda gts stiff as it slides nearer to the middle (as in....closed). Not sure whats causing it though.
Anyone know if i buy this screen and fix it myself, is there anything that leaves evidence which will void warrantee etc?
It depends how tidy a job you do but, in theory, no.
hmmmmmmm
at the mo im on endsleigh website, its really good for insurance, especially student.
Might sign up for extended mobile phone insurance for the year, it covers absolutely anything...
39
wait a couple weeks
and BAM!
excuse me can i have a new phone please i broked mine!
😮
I'm with Endsleigh, they are the company referenced above who insured my phone for free on my existing (£100 a year) home contents policy.
o cool, when you told them youd broke it or lost it (or w.e), did they chase it up much in terms of proving it? or did they just sort it straight away.
Hi Tonk3h, sorry to hear what happened.
New screen is 35 from http://www.blueunplugged.com/p.aspx?p=119983
I'd love to know the full story though mate...... 😉

Sorry, I probably wasn't clear. I haven't broken my phone or had to claim, I just got it covered in case I do.
mint, nice one mate
meh, i may as well explain
Basically, you know how you vault over stuff using one arm on the top of the wall for example, and throw yourself over it legs first, using your arm as a pivot... well, i did that, but the thing is, the object i attempted doing it over, was far too small...
it was one of those giant orange/white bricks they put on roadsides where construction is going on.. so yeh i tried to vault over an object that doesnt even reach my knee..
so in effect i was basically throwing myself to the floor.... and my phone took the landing! 😞
it was funny as fook, but not when i noticed my phone...the amount of times i screamed on the way back lmao, baring in mind i was wasted.. but meh
was a good night, a free bar for an hour in a club i was at.. 😉
I wonder what percentage of phone damage incidents come as a direct result of inebriation 😃
apparently being drunk and dropping a mobile in toilet are the most common ways of breaking phones.
so. a lot! 😃
I've broken mine twice now....
First time...Insurance job... cos me 35 excess
Second time.. I just brought a screen from mobilefun for 30 and replaced it myself.
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/13221.htm
Its really easy to replace (you will need a torx screwdriver also available from mobilefun)..
1. Open slider and undo 2 screws
2. Slide the other way and loosen the other 2 screws
3. Front of the phone should seperate giving you access to the screen
4. Unplug the screen from the circuit board (pull cable)
5. Attach new screen to circuit board
6. Follow reverse of above instructions.

Someone on another forum said that as well as their N95, they also had a "heavy drinking phone"!!
cheers for the help guys
i think im gonna just fix it myself, the excess will be £50 anyway if i got it from insurance, so on my tight budget i think ill pass.
what is a torx screwdriver?
Also, can anyone recommend a website/company to gt the part from? i dont like the look of some of these, trustworthiness?
sorry for noobness :P
anyone? sorry to be a drag
the other option if you bank with barclays is to change your account to the 6.50 per month one, register your phone wait 2 weeks and then claim on the mobile insurance that you get free with it. once you have a brand new shiny one. change your account back. thats what i did and it only cost me 6.50. yay
A guy from the link that I posted is frequently on the Nokia N95 Users Forum. Seems ok offers original Nokia parts etc.
A torx screwdriver is what you need to get the thing apart. You may need sizes 5, 5+ and 6. Don't mangle the heads of the screws by using the wrong size driver, as things will get more complicated if you do. Someone has posted a link to the N95 service manual below. May be worth a look!
s.
kk cheers m8, they dont have any t5 or t5+ screwdrivers on that website, only t6 😞
yepp i jst got a lil set of them from ebay for about a fiver in ttoal. not bad tbh.
gonna order the screen now.
on the n95 service manual it says u gota replace the screws after disassembling it... surely thats not essential i hope?
