Interested in the N95 8GB. How is performance? Any pauses and slow moments?

I am kind of fed up with my N95. Its no fun using this phone was thinking of getting the N95 8GB.

I am hearing mixed opinions about performance. My current N95 chugs once i put apps on it. Even messaging, logs and the phonebook are slow. Despite people saying otherwise(essentially lying).

What i want to know is does the N95 8GB get bogged down even with the extra ram?

My patience has really worn thin now with Nokia.

I actually don't find my N95-1 to be slow in most cases - but, the N95 8GB is supposed to be faster loading due to its use of Demand Paging, and more RAM will allow more programs to be kept running rather than having to close them all the time, allowing you to switch between them instantly. I don't have an N95 8GB to test though.

It just the unstableness and the fact that making a call can be so slow sometimes. My phone restarts alot when i browse or do basic things.

Your N95 shouldn't be unstable and reset.
Make sure you have v.12 firmware and have your apps installed to your phone and not your mem card.
Check each app installed for stability just after install.

I have the latest fw. But i install apps to memory card where possible. So the memory card thing is an issue. Is there any places i can read about it?

The read speed can be an isssue especially with cheap cards.

Some cards are just quicker for reading / writing and some are good for both. You should rerlly install themes and apps to the phone and keep photos music etc on the card.

This could be a reason. I ordered a N95 8gb anyway.

I am just annoyed that my enthusiasm for S60 has been dead the past few months. Nokia really need to work on useability and quality. I can see myself joining the Iphone camp at some point.

Don't accuse people of lying just because their experience differs from yours! I find it quick nippy but speed is relative, you may be used to a faster (perhaps less complex) interface while I am on my 4th symbian phone and it is the fastest yet.
I would think your problems are more to do with the memory card so why not try a good branded one (like SanDisk) and see if things pick up before blaming the device and getting a new one.
If you are genuinely considering an iPhone, you really are not the kind of person that should have an N95 anyway

Well having played with an iPhone for a while on the weekend I am less than overawed by it. It is beautifully styled and the touch screen is very nice but would I swap my N80, N93 or N95 for it....NEVER.

I found the iPhone slow to skip back to the menu screen, it is intuitive but in terms of technology it is in the mobile phone stoneage...It cant even send multimedia messages!!!

Bearing in mind its UK distribution is only done through either O2 or carphone warehouse, a salesman in carphone warehouse said to when I asked about the N95 8Gb that its general release was held back because of the iPhone even though the N95 pi$$es all over it. Thats coming from a man paid to sell the iPhone.

I think we are preaching to the converted here. The N95 is better than the iphone in all important respects. If you really want a funky touchscreen music player and kickass phone, you are better off (financially AND technologically) getting an N95 and an ipod touch.

i agree that N95 is nicer. Afterall i got it over the Iphone. However Nokia arent perfect.

I have the new 8GB N95, it's nice and rapid thats for sure. I was recently using a N80, but binned that as that WAS slow. I then went non-smart phone, to the 6233, and that was nice and fast, but very very limited.

My N95 8GB is nice, fast, smooth and looks sexy! But, there have been a few issues though. Yesterday I was uninstalling an application and it crashed big style. I had to reformat the phone as it wouldn't even startup. (found a sneaky way of doing it)

And, sometimes the web browser just closes, but it's not a ram issue as there is never less then 80mb free!

So to sum up, it's a fantastic phone. If you enjoy smartphones in general, you'll love it.

Well my N95 8GB arrived. Liking it so far. And iw ill heed your advice for putting key apps on the phone memory. 😊

Seems good so far. It much faster. Though not perfectily snappy always. I wonder how N82 compares in day to day use. I am thinking i should have perhaps waited :P

I have my 8GB N95. Its very nice. I am happy with it. Its much faster and i had afew crashes with the browser so far. seems to just not be that optimised overall but running pretty well. Real test is when i install loads of software.

Welcome to planet Earth. 🙄

My N95 8GB is sim free. First time i ever got a sim free phone.

I really like it. It seems fast with apps installed. Still havent put everything on and i am going to test various email apps for 10 minute checking etc. and see how it goes. N95 used to chug on some apps especially when i used try and make a phone call and it owuld connect to email int he background (native built in email app was ok but only has 30 min checking and no html).

Hi,

I am interesting in the new N95 8GB as well 😊

Can you please inform about the battery life performance?

How long can it last with this usage pattern :

- Call time for about 30 minutes a day
- No data connection at all

The phone will be used by my wife and she does not use internet , etc. 😊 But she likes N95 because it is a sexy phone.

However, she hates bad battery performance and she is using an old nokia (flip, I dont know which one) and the battery is bad (charge every 2 - 3 days, used only for calling).

Btw, can you use TomTom with external BT GPS? I think so yes ...

Thanks.

i'd like some input about this as well. i currently own an n95-1 and i am tired of my phone resetting itself while i'm browsing the web, now i'm stuck and i can't decide which one to get, the n95 8bg or n95-3 us 3g version. they both have basically what i need, better RAM and better battery( i'm using two batts for my n95 classic which i don't mind at all but still a good upgrade). what i can't decide on are my whims.

if i go with the 8gb, i get the bigger screen and the better build, but i lose my micro sd slot.

if i go with the us version, i get to keep the my micro sd slot, possibly use the 3g speed ( i only use data for emails and im anyway and am still using EDGE which is ok), but i compromise the sleek black look (big screen and build quality)

does this really come down to brains vs braun? function vs. fashion?

well N95 8GB has better battery than standard N95 but i wouldnt say its 2-3 days good. I still charge every day. Its just much nicer than the standard N95.

Depends will you use more than 8GB? Then go for the N95.

I have just got the N95 8gb; Havent suffered any problems reported by many of my friends with the N95 classic. Seems very quick, even when multi tasking and the best thing of all.. no need for seperate satnav, iPod or Archos. Has anyone used the tv cable yet? I have got it hooked up to my HDTV an although the graphics are slightly pixelated, watching videos or just using the interface is very useable.

Anyone worked out how to use the barcode reader?

Yeah its great. I have developed a problem with Maps crashing as it loads up but i think the new firmware should fix this. Shame the asian fw isnt out yet.

Barcode readers reads codes made for it. Try someof the nokia blogs codes. They are square instaed of lines.
