I have just visited a banking site on my 9210 with
the opera browser for the 9210.
I get the message Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.02
Netscape 4.1 or later versions needed to use the
site.
I then went to www.opera.com to see what could
be done for me to use the banking sites.
Opera says that the Opers browser V5 automatically
adjusts so that sites work with Opera.
Or with V6 you can press F12 key and set the preferences
to suit.
Question:: Is there a file that anybody has converted
or written, that I can use, to get round this problem??.
Or what have you done when you get to a similar
situation with web sites that need you to upgrade
the browser when it isn't needed??
Banking & Opera on 9210
You need to buy a Microsoft SmartPhone which runs PocketPC operating system and applications. Get it? 😉
Some coders in the old days used to check functions in the browser rather than have it reply with a version number as the check. The thing with this is that Opera supports the W3C standards and the tests use browser specific commands, as Opera doesn't have the browser specific commands the browser spoofing doesn't work.
Only workaround? Use a PC.
The mobile versions of Opera I've used in the past can identify themselves as IE or Netscape (as you wish). I'm not absolutely certain if Opera for the Communicator (the unofficial 9210 version) does this though because I haven't used it for a while and can't find any place to download it from. Anyone help me here?
Sorry - but Microsoft's mobile web browser is simply pants. hence the proliferation of third party web browsers on PPC. I really don't want to knock 'Microsoft's smartphone' (I presume you mean the Sendo clone that Orange sells?) but if you must have web browsing via Microsoft then I'd stick with the HP PPC.
