irRemote finally appears

Psiloc's irRemote has been one of the most eagerly awaited utilities for S60 3rd Edition and Symbian In Motion reports that it's now finished. Assuming your S60 smartphone has an infrared port (quite likely), your smartphone can then be a valid backup in case a genuine TV or a/v remote goes missing.

Tis indeed a wonderous thing. I've successfully programed 3 tellys and a dvd today and get a range of about 4m on N95

The winner of the slowest-installing smartphone program contest.
And NO learning mode? Take example from Casio's CMD-40 Infrared Remote watch. They did it right. Database is not per model, but per signalling system, and to find out which system fits you just press Power in a special mode and see the signalling system number change after each keypress. Once the Power signal fits, your TV switches off and you notice the system's number and set it.
And if you're lazy to go through this, just use the learning mode to record actual signals from your Remote into the watch. That UI works better.

I wonder if there will be a UIQ3 version upcoming too? I'd love to have a tool like this!

Cheers,

It's weird, my bro on an 8gig n95 had an uber slow install, but on my n95 'original', it was quick as. I'm getting a range of about 4 metres as well, nice 😊

btw, fwiw, It seems to work on infrared method 6 the best, most other modes dont' work at all.

as above. Ir method 6 using codes for sky + digibox provided in the downloads. Unfortunately, i've got sky HD, so thus far, not all buttons work. Will be a handy app down the local.

I know what ya mean. I used to work in a pub when I had an IR remote program installed on my Nokia 6600. I would change channels randomly on the big TVs when people are watching important footie games and such. It's so funny!

I have a pretty standard setup with cable box and Samsung Tv. Neither responded to any of the settings. Not worth any more of my time.
