Quick match from Idle with SkyeQuiKey

Power users are always on the look out for ways they can speed up the use of their device, ways of getting to information just that little bit quicker. In this review Steve examines one potential solution, SkyeQuiKey, a program that integrates with the idle screen and offers quick matching against contacts and applications stored on the phone.

Read on in the full article.

I've just tried the free trial and it is amazing!

Its almost exactly like qix and appQlaunch, except its very fast and very accurate. If it were pre-installed on phones from the start, you could pretty much dump the ui and go with this.

One question, does this find people based on a snippet of phone/fax number? One of my gripes about the E90 is that I can no longer tap in a phone number on contacts and find out who it belongs to.

As far as I can tell, it only searches from the front of the phone number, so you may have to go quite far into the phone number snippet before it finds a unique person/ narrows the list down sufficiently.

I'd recommend having a try with it, since its got a free trial.

Steve, one question:

The application is simply amazing and what i have been looking for for a long time....

Just one problem -> have you found a way to invoke Speed Dials from the standby screen now with the app running?

Thanks!

ubikutz - speed dialling still works with this app - you just hold the relevant key down to invoke speed dialling as before.

Seems nice but a bit pricey.

EDIT: In the two hours I've had this on my phone, I've found it to be quite simply, brilliant. No more slow navigation through the folders, simply type the letters of the app you want and up it pops. Contacts are, likewise, a breeze to find and either call or send a message to. It's so fast, and easy.

At least Handango have a sale on at the moment... 😊

I love it too 😊

Also great for launching web pages from your bookmarks, as it searches them too. So instead of first launching the browser, then scrolling to the right bookmark, you just type a few characters from the bookmarks name and BOOM you can go right to the page you need.

Also, it keeps a list of your recent searches, so the next time you search, the item you selected the last time will be at the top of the list.

I think this is an absolutely MUST HAVE app - it has changed the way I use my N95.

How did you do that? It does not show bookmarks on my n93.

Lovely application. I have using this almost since last one month. This one application reduces the entire menu based navigation to zero. Moreover it does not occupy any shortcuts and is very speedy and responsive. I wonder why Nokia can't provide such applications at least in some of the high end models. Wonderful job done by SKYESTREAM team.

Just so you all know, SkyeQuiKey is available at Skyestream's shopcart at 10% discount. You can use PayPal or a credit card to pay. I used it and it worked 100%. My license code was served immediately!

Further, their customer support is brilliant. Respnse times quickest ever.
Hope that helps and saves you some money and headache. I love this app and highly recommend it to others too. Best app sopend for me this year.

My best app I reckon for S60! I also bought from the Skyestream shopcart.
Quick and easy. If you have no other app, this is the one to have at least 😉

I have been using SkyQuiKey on my N95 for a couple of weeks and it's great. From time to time it does seem to freeze the Standby screen, but that is easily overcome.
Yesterday I loaded up my eagerly awaited trial version of Adaptxt for S60, which also seems a "must have " application. Unfortunately I am finding that if I have both new apps running the Standby screen freezez every time I touch the keyboard. Has anyone else had this problem?

Further to my recent comment.... Adaptxt have been in touch with me and say that this is a known fault, and that the next version of their software, to be available shortly, will address this problem

I found one thing that I dont like (after a lot and lot of use) 😊

When tying a phone number on the standby screen with the intention of adding it to the phone book, you do not get an option to do so.

@malerocks

I just type part of the bookmark name and it shows up in the list like apps and contacts.

e.g. I have a bookmark named "JP Mobil"

I just type 57 (for j & p) and it's in the list.

I think it searches the name you saved it under, not the URL

yeah SkyeQuiKey is great. When I need to use the device for pairing bluetooth devices or adding a new number, I simply disable SkyeQuiKey using the Options menu (while it is still active i.e. you dont need to CLOSE the app, just disable it temporarily) DO what you need to, then simple enable it again.

I mainly use my phone to call, find app and send SMS messages so I need this 99% of the time. SkyeQuiKey servies this perfectly. If I need one of these other functions, it is not inconvenenient to do a temp disable.
Hope that helps you guys ...

No. It is a different company. The company that developed SkyeQuiKey is Skyestream. QIX is another app. I have seen both and I think that SkyeQuiKey is MUCH better. Quicker. More sleek. More functionality. Hands-down winner.

Skyestream have another great application out called SkyeCaller PRO. I use this too. It is the most customisable ringtone, video ringtone and caller image display app available for S60. I would recommend SkyeQuiKey and SkyeCaller PRO as 'must haves.'

Like the other user above I have also used Skyestream's online shop and had only good experiences ... and saved a few Euro!:

I think this is a great product (although I agree it's a bit pricey). I'm up for anything that provides shortcuts, and SkyeQuiKey can be used to quickly look up people, bookmarks and applications with a really slick approach.

I do think they're rather shooting themselves in the foot by only allowing a one-day trial though. Anyone who doesn't get hooked in the first day might not bother. If you let people use it for a week or two, by the end of that time I think most of them won't be able to live without it, ergo more registrations.

I found some small bugs & issues which I've reported to the developers (along with my thoughts about the trial period):

  • On the E90's internal keyboard, occasionally SkyeQuiKey shows the Active Standby screen without it having the focus, so typing does absolutely nothing (you can see when it's happening, as the normal softkey labels don't appear either). Unfortunately, I couldn't identify the combination of events in which this does or doesn't occur.
  • Also, when texting (unlike calling), it always prompts for which number to use, even if you have a default number configured for text messages.
  • When changing the display settings from Last Name, First Name to First Name, Last Name display, SkyeQuiKey goes straight to the background and re-indexes without either confirming your config change or waiting for you to exit the settings. My initial reaction to this was that it wasn't working.
  • Searching does ONLY search from the start of strings. This is by design (and IMHO not a problem provided you're aware of it), but isn't documented.

However, once I got past the automatic "check our FAQs" reply to my initial support email to them, they were pretty helpful, and I'm expecting to see a fixed version to try any day soon.

Julie

Yes I think its a faithful recreation of Qix...

But the again you could argue its the same as the smart dialer found on Windows Mobile.

I'd like to see it match any part of a string too (particularly for numbers).

I installed SkyeQuiKey yesterday. I used it for one day today then the trial expired. I am already hooked! SkyeQuiKey has saved me very much time and key presses. What a great app! Thanks for the advise. I also used the Skyestream online shop to buy SkyeQuiKey and got a 10% discount also 😉

I like to play s-tris occasionally. I've had trouble getting skyequikey to match it.

's' matches too many things. I don't see how to type '-'. 'Tri' doesn't match it (I just get the 'call' option).

How do I get it to match 'S-Tris'?

Max.

Normally the hyphen in T9 is accessible from the 1 key. Have you tried 718747?
(As mentioned before, SkyeQuiKey only matches the start of strings (by design), which is why Tri won't work.)

If that doesn't work, I'd suggest emailing the developers to ask them to add support for common punctuation.

yeah, still doesn't work. just '2' gets closest...
