The N95 8GB hits v11 firmware

Hi I would like to get my vf n95 8gb unlocked so I can get this update (currently im in the UK and nokia update manager tells me theres no updates available). Any suggestions where I can get it unlocked from (london). (sorry to be so off topic)

My VF N95 8GB wouldnt update to v11.
So I changed the product code to EURO1 using the NSS software (its quite straight forward to do it). After doing that I restarted, which let me update my phone to V11. Its now a bit faster.

The great thing is that it got rid of all the VF branded firmware. So theres a lot of things enabled now like internet telephony, PTT etc.

If you will attempt that, do a backup of everything first, and then after updating to V11 do a restore; as the firmware update will wipe out everything on your phone memory-contacts, msgs, notes etc.

Update: Playing around with the phone a bit more: A few VF installed apps such as Google Maps, Ebay etc, arent usable any more; as well as the Spiderman film which says no activation key. However, Maps looks a bit different, and I 'think' the animate icons is new.

theskillster: you dont need to unlock your phone do that. follow my instructions above.
i did unlock my N95 8GB phone however at TCR. Theres a chinese bloke in an electronics shop who unlocked it via code for £25. The shop's just after the Odeon on TCR on the same side.

How do wee look for product code on the website? I have 0556218. But dont know which country. Please let me know what website i have to go to look that up.
Thank you

Is there any way of fixing Spiderman 3 if you change the product code and debrand or is it simply a case of once its done its gone?

I noticed there was an option to "Unprotect" the movie, but it didn't seem to do anything to it.

How would one remove the apps that no longer work? (e.g. Youtube, etc) - hard reset?

Anyone else noticed that the Multimedia key now does nothing (other than flash the screen for a second 😉 )

Mines still working as normal :icon14:

I just updated the product code on my VF N95 8gb to 0549487 which I believe is euro1

Turned phone on and off again, then tried to do an update
Update is saying I already have latest version 😞

Do I have to do a factory reset on phone? Or reboot my PC?

all u need to do is run NSS
read the product code
type in its place the EURO1 code (its in page1 of this thread)
click write
click read to verify

reboot your phone

run software update

Thats exactly what I have done

Changed code with NSS to 0549487
Read it and verified many times - its definatly set

Hard reset the phone using *#7370# method

Connected to NUS and it says no updates available

Im going nuts.. LOL

very weird
u shudnt need to hard reset, tho i dont think it causes a problem

u using the latest version of software update?

on a slightly different subject
any chance u cud send me the vodafone theme. i kinda like it and its gone away with the new firmware!

Thank you

you have the US version. there is no firmware update available yet.

Just done the update - changed my vodaphone code to euro1 and updated

Definatly fixed a LOT of annoying bugs, and faster

But can we get rid of the icons for the dead google maps, ebay and youtube apps???

i guess we could. i havent done it myself yet but the icons are of no use now. they dont work.
really? what bugs did they fix?

only things i miss really is the spiderman film and the vodafone theme 😞

I havent been able to delete moby as an artist from my phone since the day I got it - the music player was awful

The camera was also very slow and half the time didnt focus on what I was taking a pic of

Both of those seems to be fixed and the whole phone seems quicker - especially the wifi

I just have 3 dead icons in applications I cant get rid of 😞

Did you do a restore ? if so you will need to *#7370# reset, you shouldn't restore a branded backup to an unbranded firmware

I just plugged mine in and it came back saying there is no update available, even though I'm running version 10.x. Is that because there isn't a vodofone version of the firmware yet?

yea. u need to change the product code to EURO1 if u want it upgraded. or wait till vodafone release the firmware.

I havent done a reset since I installed the new firmware - do I need to?

If you had a vodafone handset and changed the Product code to euro 1 then restored a backup made while still on the vodafone firmware, then yes I would. However you will lose the license key for spiderman 3.

The reason why you shouldn't restore a backup is that there items in the Vodafone firmware not present in the Generic one and vise versa, if you restore a backup these items can overwrite items causing instablilty, and some apps and settings for example Internet Tel inside the settings app can disappear again.

Next time you update your firmware you can backup and restore without worry because you will already be on the generic firmware

If you didn't restore a backup then you don't need to worry

For anyone who lost their vodafone google maps app, you can download the proper S60V3 A-GPS version by visiting googlemap.com from your phone browser.

Thanks for letting me know it can be unlocked via code.
Its partly vodafone's phone still, so I don't want to mess with changing the phone code, but unlocking it would be easier as no one would notice..

Ratkat: Any idea how to remove the vodafone specific icons? They cant be deleted after the firmware upgrade. I was guessing maybe theres a folder somewhere which can be accessed by FEEXPLORER which I can delete.

Hi all,

Well i also changed my product code via NSS and downloaded the new Generic firmware the only difference being i had already deleted anything i could from the VodaFone branded version.

Anyone else notice that during the update the screen lit up and showed the new Firmware version at the top the screen with checking hardware below that and a large blue Nokia. This was all in landscape and the first time i have ever seen this during an update anyone else notice this?.

I am just happy to have a nice unbranded device as Nokia intended the only other thing i have noticed is that the Multimedia app is now far more responsive as is the Music app.

On my wifes Vodafone handset, I formatted the Mass Memory before doing the firmware upgrade, and didn't bother restoring a backup (synced the contacts, calendar to the PC before hand) so no vodafone stuff on her phone at all.

The easiest way for you to get rid of it would be to sync your stuff to your PC, format the memory card, then perform a *#7370# reset, this will get rid of all the vodafone stuff, then sync your contacts back.

I got an unlocking code through my IT Dept.
My VF one is now completely debranded and unlocked and running on T-Mob.
So I effectively have a brand new sim free one..
Multimedia key works fine.
GPS seems to lock on a little quicker but not massively - could just be me wanting to think it does😊
Shame about Spiderman 3 - I get a DRM message, cannot remember what it says.
I'll probably delete and, er, acquire another copy with no DRM on it:redface:

I just got a N95 8GB and I see it is a US model. Can I change it to EURO1 as mentioned in this thread so I can then update the firmware to this new one?

What do I beed to do to change it to EURO1?

Thanks in advance.

Any one got a changes list for the new v20 firmware of N95 8Gb. the N95 changes list is already posted in this forum
