E61i - Is this the right device for me?

6 replies · 6,327 views · Started 25 November 2007

Hi all, im currently using a nokia N73 and im deciding whether to move over to a E61i.

Questions......

1. The worst thing about the N73 is that it doesnt always tell me when i have received a new email (Gmail with IMAP). I find it randomly doesnt display "new email" on the standby screen.

How good is the E61i at displaying new emails? Im assuming that, because its a messaging faced device this shouldnt be a problem on this?

2. LED Notifications

Before my N73 I use to have a pocketpc device which has LED notifications. The E61i has this right? How is it with this? LED flash green constantly and red when misscall/new email/new sms???

3. Memory card

Whats the largest capacity memory card the E61i can handle? I currently have a 2gig in my N73 which i suppose its good enough, ideally would like to use a 4gig as i use my phone for music as well

4. Music

How good is that music funtionality on the E61i? Does it display the current track on the today screen? Also is there a volume rocker?

5. Bluetooth A2DP profile

I know the E61i doesnt support this, if it did then it would be perfect as i use a bluetooth headset!

6. Battery Life

Hows the battery life on this device? My previous E series nokias have had fantastic battery life

At present im not sure if i should move over to the E61i. The n73 IS ok but never tells me when i have an email, qwerty keyboard would be nice, LED notifications would be really nice as well, A2DP would be perfect!

1.Nokia seem to have this licked. I use Gmail with IMAP and my ISP's IMAP email. Both work properly.

2.The notication LED is white; you can choose which events cause it to flash and how long it flashes.

3.2GB microSD. I'd like 4GB as I have Viewranger mapping (OS 1:50000) which needs 2.72GB for the whole country.

4.Music player is functional. Current track does appear on the today screen and the volume can be adjusted with both the volume buttons on the side of the phone and by left/right on the NaviKey. It doesn't really take advantage of the extra screen area the E61i affords; the app is common to all s60 3rd edition phones

6.I use mine to download and listen to podcasts a lot. Wi-Fi and the music player seem to cane the battery a bit so I charge it every day. If I have no chance to listen to podcasts then I find that the battery seems to last quite well but I have no real idea of how good it can be.I still miss charging my 6310i once a week but then it was just a phone!

You can add a unread email count to the standby screen and have the LED flashing for up to 2 hours.

2. LED Notifications

Before my N73 I use to have a pocketpc device which has LED notifications. The E61i has this right? How is it with this? LED flash green constantly and red when misscall/new email/new sms???

The LED has only one color (white) and flashes for configurable events (email, sms, missed calls, voice mail) for up to 2 hours (configurable)

3. Memory card

Whats the largest capacity memory card the E61i can handle? I currently have a 2gig in my N73 which i suppose its good enough, ideally would like to use a 4gig as i use my phone for music as well

2gb max (it's a standard microsd not microsdhc)

4. Music

How good is that music funtionality on the E61i? Does it display the current track on the today screen? Also is there a volume rocker?

The music player is not as good as N series or S60 V3 FP1 devices but still displays song information and volume control on the standby screen.

5. Bluetooth A2DP profile

I know the E61i doesnt support this, if it did then it would be perfect as i use a bluetooth headset!

battery is great, my E61i survives 3 days with gprs on all day and a some wifi and calls (plase note that the building I work makes the cell phone signal very weak)

ok guys ive been looking around and i just wanted ask about e61 vs e61i

Personally i dont really mind not having a camera, althou the extra shortcut screen would be nice. Apart from that is there anything else which i would be missing IF i was to get the E61? Is the LED notification light still present? Its the identical software on each right?

Price wise its somewhat cheaper so if im not going to be using the camera then i might as well save some money.

you won't get active standby so customizable and LED notification only works for Email

i managed to get an e61i and have been using it for a week or so and the device is fantastic!

I love the big screen, excellent battery life however the rubberish buttons take some getting use to, i have a blackberry which has much better button feel compaired to the e61i

The device is very slim and looks amazing, would highly recommend it even though it doesnt have FP1.

Thanks everyone for the answers to my questions :icon14:
