surely its visible if demand paging is in there or not. if not explicitly then operationally ... the whole point is that phone works faster. if it doesnt then demand paging prob not in it ?

Demand Paging should be visible as a significantly higher amount of free RAM on boot - as people are seeing.

I have both the N95 and the N95 8GB.
This new firmware is virtually a clone of the 8GB.
Things that I have noticed since installing 30 mins ago.

Start up is 50% faster.
Instead of around 18MB at start up I have nearly 28MB
Applications are opening as quickly as the 8GB.
The camera is available a lot quicker.
N Gage has been added.
New Music folder.
Music store.
Utilities folder.
Themes icon removed and is reached as on 8GB.
Search Internet and My content now on Active Standby display the same as 8
GB.

Have got Standby, Handy Taskman, Contacts, Music Player, Gallery all open with 18.8M left and can use the web browser on top of this!

This looks to be the firmware that I've been hoping for on the N95.

Hi and is this firmware ok for the Nokia N95 8gb ? as ive just upgraded from version 10 to 11.0.026 , and i only done this yesterday !! but this looks good if its compatable, also my phone was on Vodafone and its now unlocked and debranded...so if this new firmware is ok can you guys let me no as i noticed in the main post its only for unbranded n95 phones !!

Please can anybody help me with this and hopefully others wil be wondering aswell.

Hope to hear soon from Brian

My experiences:
Camera still takes 5 secs to boot. 1-2 secs to focus. But...! Then it grabs the picture when you hit the shutter, not some seconds later. Nice.

Booting is a bit faster, but not overwhelming.

30.416KB of free RAM right after boot, according to ActiveFile mem monitor (I don't use handy taskman because it consistantly eats 2+MB of RAM. When you exit it just releases 200KB, but that's off topic).

I can't see any reason why anyone would want to put this on the 8GB as all it does is to bring, IMHO, the N95 up to near the 8GB standard.

Hi yes i see your point but would still like to no if its for the n95 and the n95 8gb ?

Thanks from brian

1.slider doesn't open multimedia menu anymore! Hooray!
2.how to add Google to Search plug-in?

readbmr wrote:Hi yes i see your point but would still like to no if its for the n95 and the n95 8gb ?

I would definitley NOT interchange the the firmware between the N95 and N95 8GB, the hardware is different.

now on latest firmware .... this is amazing !! Works much faster and its everything I wanted from my n95. Ill be keeping it longer than planned now. N o need to go to N82 also.

thanks Nokia !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Search is now appearing on the Active Standby screen. I want to get rid of it, but it looks like there's still no Active Standby Pluggins option.

Is there any way to update the firmware and keep all my old text messages?

I tried the content copier but when it restored the content after the update it changed some of the icons (i.e. the Music Player) back to the originals and moved some things around. I think it removed some of the icons too because I can't find them all again.

I tried de-selecting everything from except the messages on the Content Copier however it still always does "Device specific data" every time, which includes all my old apps, changing everything around, etc, etc.

Cant wait to install this when i get home. Would you reccomend a clean install.. How can i back up my operator settings? Or shoudl i just re-add them?

I'm quite sure that this firmware won't even be available for N95 8GB users to install; changing your product code could possibly allow it to flash but even then I doubt it. Don't try though! You wouldn't gain anything from it anyway, even if it somehow worked flawlessly. Install the latest N95 8GB firmware (V11, I believe).

Now that you're all busy upgrading the firmware on the N95 perhaps you would like the Nokia N series 4 theme that appears on the 8GB and on the latest N series PC Suite 2.0.

Try this:-

The default icons theme is as close as I've seen to the 8GB.

Here's the state of affairs then - when I turn the phone on it just says Nokia and wont go any further. I can connect it to the PC and it recognises it as the bootloader type of USB connection. When I run update it tells me there's software available for the phone but when I click to proceed it tells me about phone recovery. Then when I do the recovery it tells me it's lost connection to the phone. I suspect it might be this PC, so will try another or try when I get home!

You can only do a clean install because it wipes the entire internal memory. I'm with Vodafone Uk and all the operator settings downloaded automatically, either as part of the update or when I first turned the phone on.

Anyone got any ideas about how I can keep my text messages without having to use the in-phone Backup or the PC Suite Content Copier?

Can anyone report if t-mobile UK handsets have the upgrade available yet? As a Mac user, I have to traipse to a mate's house to run the upgrade off his XP laptop.

No, they dont. But you can just change the product code to a generic one.

If they are copied to the memory card they are fine (or at least mine were when I did the upgrade to v12).

Yep, I did that from T-Mobile and it was perfect. Even restoring a backup made before changing the code and updating, worked!

Thanks - how do you go about changing the product code? (Probably worth doing just to get rid of the web'n'walk icon... ;o) )

The Nokia Maps which comes preinstalled to v20 is v1.2wk37 b05, if you want the latest version - v1.2wk38 b02, you can get it here --> http://europe.nokia.com/A4509291

It takes a while to install and doesn't look like it's doing anthing for a couple of minutes, but be patient, it does work.

Search the forum...

The firmware still has Flash Lite 2.0 😞 so no YouTube

oh boy can't wait to get home and install to check if there's demand paging...
