I can't remember what it took to cause an out of memory error before the update, I think maybe Nokia Maps and having the camera open was all it took but not sure.

I have tried to trigger the memory error on the new firmware but got as far as opening Radio, Music player playing some music, Web browser, Search app, Nokia Maps, ngage games thing, gallery and taking a picture with the camera as all that guff was running in the background....and I still haven't got an error....nice. :icon14:

what tha hell where did "start tracking" for the maps go?
can only choose Start Simulating and Start Navigating, and one of them cost and the other is just crap.
which means the build in gps program is totaly useless?

idea anyone? same for you guys?

I tried to have my PC Suite check for an update, but it said that an update is not available. I guess this means that my phone is branded.

I'm very new to symbian and so please excuse me for asking these silly things. How do I unbrand my phone so that I can take advantage of the available update?

I think this option has been removed - very annoying. The new maps app was available before this firmware and people reported that tracking was no longer an option. 😞

I gave up on Maps ages ago. Google Maps does everything I want.

Removing tracking makes the only useful free mode 'Show on map', which is a mostly-manual turn-by-turn mode. Unfortunately it seems that Nokia decided that tracking was a bit too useful to be offering for free?

but google maps cant show you a "route" to your destination as Start Tracking function did?
I mean no voice guiding or anything, just a black line painted on the map for the way you are supposed to drive.
used that when i was in a need of any kind of gps guiding once when my route66 would not work, but now all depends on route66 which works fine, but anyway.
backup gps for emergency situations is always good.

anyway can google maps do this?
and you got link for the prog?

go to www.google.com/gmm on your phone's browser and it'll automatically give you the right version for your phone.

I don't use Nokia Maps that often now, as Google Maps has got better. I use Tomtom when I'm driving and Google maps when walking, it shows a line and instructions shown in the map, you manually scroll through the instructions and there's no voice, but it's fine for on foot. You don't want spoken instructions when you're on foot anyway, you'll get some funny looks!

The only downside to Google maps is that you need a good data plan. If you're with o2 you're stuffed!

but then you got an external gps reciver for tomtom?
try route66, has support for the build in reciver, verynice.
but does google maps cost anytging? like the screenshots at allaboutsymbian looks horrible
dont wanna pay for streaming data of hundreds of kb data, just have a look at the map.

I've got Route66 as well, but prefer Tomtom even with the external GPS, I can't be arsed to carry it around all the time, but it's fine in the car.

That's the good thing about Nokia Maps, the maps are loaded on the memory card, so there's no data transfer (unless you use AGPS) so it's good while abroad.

I am having problems doing this on Vista Home Premium. I download the Nokia Softare Updater and try to install it, about 15% of the way through it gives a message about not having access to some or other file. At 50% it just does a fatal exception then chrases out. Anyone else having problems with Vista.

Now where did I put that XP machine.

i'm finding wlan little buggy, i had browser close few times also had some problems with video centre closing.

Any chance of a heads up when the new firmware will be available for non sim free N95 (e.g. O2, Vodaphone etc etc.....)

Normally some time after i know,,,but you never know,,,xmas might come early.

Thanks in advance 😊

😞 soooo jealous cant update at the moment 😞

Why, it takes 5 min to download the software and change the code.

i have upgrade and all looks good so far but where is this demand paging everyone is talking about ?

all something that i noticed in the gallary there isnow an icon that says sign in for share online not sure what it dose but just thought i would tell you all

Demand paging isn't an application you will see.

It works in the background to allow applications to start faster and use less memory, which should give you a more responsive system and the ability to run more applications simultaneously.

have any one try out the wi fi on the new firmware yet. Does it still have the same problem with not detecting the router and random disconnects?

Only the networks would know.. I don't know what they tend to do for months. There is always the option of unbranding, though.

taking from nokia:

Nokia N95 Software version 20.0.015 released - 26 November 2007
This software version includes battery, stability & performance improvements enabling you to run faster and longer - giving you up to three more hours of music (up to 30% increase, from 9h to 12h of music playback). This release also includes a new version of Nokia Maps which provides faster positioning, faster Map Loader, and free 3-day navigation. Free N-Gage demo games are included and other games are available via Download! With the Nokia Music Store now live in the United Kingdom, users can enjoy the convenience of instant over-the-air downloads, regardless of where they are.

I'm on the rm-159 and can't get this yet.. bah.

Just upgraded from 11 to 20 and it certainly is snappier, halfed the boot time and much cleaner.

The only thing I wanted from this upgrade is not included:

Slider close -> End call

Drives me nuts! 😡

Mine is saying i have the lastest one already? isn't portugal euro1????

I have always suffered on all firmwares from random wifi disconnects, and this v20 seems no different, but it's something that I can live with.
