Actually, RM-159 is the N95's model number or such - everyone with an N95-1 has RM-159. It's the product code that determines what branded software you get.

web browsing is a little biggy for me, it gets stuck when loading. but i dont use it that much so am not that bothered.

its just quicker to use the phone which makes me a happy bunny.

OK, so updated to v20 without any problems but now I can't do a restore. It gets to about 73% and hangs. Not moved in 20 mins and the CPU is running flat out. Will be well hacked off if I have lost everything I backed up! Any ideas??

Anyone having problems with playback through the headphones after the jump to V20.x?

Just tested it on mine and was kinda buggy (wouldn't play through the headset at all!). Strange.

Why would you wanna restore an old backup? You have just updated the firmware so it is no longer the same phone. Just sync back your Outlook data and reinstall everything else.

I restored from a backup - saves time setting up profiles, preferences and things like your pop3 account.

i also restored from backup but i find its a little sluggish again. poo !!!

For my text messages. I assumed as they were stored on the memory card I would be able to retrieve them but can't. I'm sure I did this on the last update but can't remember if this was before the backup restore or not.

greetings. i just upgraded my n95 firmware to the brand new spanking v20. updating went fine, phone restarted. All seemed fine. However, one thing i noticed is that i could not find the "demand paging" option/program or whatever you call it. Furthermore my "search" was simply an empty icon sitting as when i clicked on it , nothing happened. I am not quite sure whether i should simply re install( if thats possible) or i dont know. The rest is fine i must say. definitely faster. the map works brillantly and browsing is faster too. The games that comes with the upgrade are cool (although demos, cant have it all i suppose). Anyone can advise?

upgraded no problem. Restore from file no problem. however, not all programs were restored which is no big deal.

however, the music slide does not activate the music player any more. u have to press play to get it open. :con?

So to be totaly clear and that i do not brick my phone.. i have mine branded with Telia. and if i change the product code to scandinavia i should be able to upgrade it to v.20 without problems? cuz i would like mine in swedish, The NSS tips and stuff say "EURO1" or "EURO2", but do i have to use those 2?

Right, although it was not required, further to installing the upgrade, i did it again. And weirdly enough, i could NOt get search to launch. it does feature in the standby but when i do click on it, nothing happens. Hence i checked in application manager if it would be listed there, in which case i would uninstall it and then try to download+rinstall it again. however, it was not listed there either. i even tried in file manager in installed files, in fact there was nothing there. So, i still went online and tried re downloading the program from nokia's website. It downloaded alright, however when it was proceeding with install, it said something like cannot update or something like that. Thats a bit weird, cos i cannot seem to be able to get it to work!. I am on T mobile uk and otherwise, the rest seem to be working alright so far.

Anyone has an idea? If yes, suggestions welcomed, danke schon !

just upgraded the firmware last night... all went fine...restored my contacts ,settings and messages via pc suite... search is working, wifi is working... phone feels snappier and very responsive.. the only thing that annoys me is that when i install asiamaps(gps apps pre installed to asian n95), some of the pop-up message when adjusting something remains on the screen...also happened when i use IM+, when i connect to yahoo messenger, the pop-up message with user status remains on the screen too..aside from that... everything works fine...

I download the Nokia Softare Updater and try to install it, about 15% of the way through it gives a message about not having access to some or other file. At 50% it just does a fatal exception then chrases out. Anyone else having problems with Vista.

Now where did I put that XP machine.

My upgrade went fine from a vista machine. One option that was set by my install of the upgrade programe was for it to run as administrator. If the program is saying it cant access some file, it sounds like this option isnt set for you. right click on the softaware updater icon and select 'run as administrator' and try that

Under settings->general->"adapt" (don't know the english one, it's the first in the list)->Themes

Upgraded this morning and noticed a couple of issues:

1. Search option doesn't function (and cannot run it from the menu either)
2. 'Not enough memory; close some applications' message when running Nokia Device Status.

Apart from that it looks nice and definitely seems slicker. I like the fact the slider doesn't open the gallery; I wonder if they've done that to give a more tuned experience and prevent the phone from having to do too many things at once.

2nd one in the list 😉

I just installed Snakes using the link above and it worked. I can start Snakes and play the game.

There is a slight problem though: the N95 does not show the proper icon for the Snakes application in the menu but a generic icon instead.

Is there a way to have the correct icon again?

Thanks!

UPDATE: I don't know why but after some minutes while the N95 was lying idle on the table the correct Snakes icon is now showed in the menu. Very strange... 😊

This happens if you install an app when some of the files from a previous installation are still there. You used to have to fix it by installing, uninstalling and then reinstalling again but it seems the newer firmware is a bit more resiliant.

What about FOTA: is it now enabled in v20?

And the Radio-bug (sound only in 1 earpiece): has this bug been solved?

Whats FOTA? 😊

Just to add some of my comments, I upgraded to 20 from version 11.

WONDERFUL camera and gallery improvements. Very slick fast gallery (really is quicker), and much better camera, shows much faster the actual picture you took, and not a complete imaginary picture for 5 seconds, and then the actual one you took.

I have now discovered that Windows Live works (which didn't work for me under v11 firmware with a hotmail.co.uk address) which is a massive plus for me, I can run messenger and read my hotmail all nicely integrated into my phone.

Also, on a previous country route which I drive to work and back, while making a call I only lose the signal (and thus the call) at one place along that route rather than 3 places, which means something has definately improved signal wise.

I really do feel that call quality is higher. This I have no evidence, its just that everything sounds crisper to me.

Im slightly annoyed by having *another* line of text on my active standy screen. The new search bar simply takes you through to the new search application - they should have just put it as an available shortcut in the 6 icon active standy screen rather than forcing a new line on your display. If anyone happens to know of a program to reconfigure the active standby screen and select WHICH items you want on it (similar to the E series) then please let me know.

I do miss my themes icon, I quite like changing themes, but at least you can still change them 😊

I agree, on the whole its excellent, like a new phone! Changes I dislike:
The search thing on active standby
Removal of Themes icon (they duplicate other settings with their own icon so why not that one)

Changes I am still hoping for:
Customisable icons (for folders at least)
Ability to 'hide' the icons for some of the tools on ROM that you never use
Customisable active standby plugins (like the E series)

Just create a folder called "hidden" or whatever you want, and move all app's you don't use or have a shortcut too, into that folder.

That way they will only take up 1 icon space in all, and you can put the folder out of the way.

I changed the product code from a US code to Euro1 code to get the firmware upgrade, should I keep this code or I can roll it back to the original code ? will there be any problem if I roll back the code ? in fact, what's this code for ?

That's what I do but it just annoys me having a folder full of applications I NEVER use. Seems kinda silly to have a folder on my menu which is literally pointless

I changed my T-mobile code to euro1 to upgrade and then changed it back. It doesn't really matter tbh but it certainly doesn't do any harm either. The only reason I did it was to cover up my warranty-voiding actions!
