N95 wont start or update firmware

My N95 isn't for upgrading to the new firmware. I got through the process then it told me I had to do the recovery on it. Take the battery out, put it back in and so forth.

When I plug it into the PC it detects it all properly and running NSU it finds the phone, but when it goes it upgrade it just says the connection to the phone lost.

Anyone got any ideas?

switch OFF any firewall and antivirus programs for the duration of the update.

IF you are running Vista .. then you may need to run it in XPSP2 compatibility mode with active themes switched OFF .. oh and as administrator.

Good Luck!😊

So here's the process I'm going through - load NSU, plug in phone which detects as BB5 ADL Loader. NSU detects the phone and tells me that there's software available for my phone - Nokia N95 RM-159, Update 20.0.015. It however gives me the option to either exit or reinstall.

I then choose reinstall.

It then goes to Updating the software and this particular time it's downloading the software.

Then it will go to install said software and tell me about phone recovery when I have to unplug the charger and the battery, replace the battery, plug in the charger and press the power button. The phone itself turns on as soon as the charger is plugged in.

NSU will then try to update again but will complain that connection to the phone is lost.

Is it bricked?

If I'm taking my phone back should I go to Vodafone - where I got it from - or to Carphone warehouse who are the service centre on the nokia site?

Do you have any other nokia applications on the pc you are trying to update from....

or can you try a different pc to do the update from?

The two pcs I've tried it on both had full PC suite installs and latest NSU. Both fail the same way. Both are totally different PCs though. I disabled firewalls and AV and removed just about everything USB that I could except the phone cable.

Is there any other software methods to try for flashing?

I've tried removing everything nokia related and then just putting NSU back on but no such luck. The phone wont boot past the nokia logo even with the three button launch and only detects on the PC as the BB5 ADL Loader. Which incidentally never disappears from the device manager on either PC when NSU claims to loose connection.

Really am at a loss to anything else to try other than going to the shop and handing it over saying FIX ME PLEASE!

If your PC still detects it as BB5 ADL loader, try running NSU again. I had a similar problem on an N80 a while back and it took a few tries before it then just went through OK. Make sure you have the phone fully charged and cables well connected.

NSU will loose connection occasionally for a short time as part of the upgrade process.

Would 30 odd times be enough to decide that it's maybe not going to work? lol

The phone was sitting on charge with the AC plugged in for most of those attempts last night.

I think it was the momentary loss of connection the first time round that's caused the issue.

30 times, come on... try harder! 😉

If you did loose a connection the 1st time then yeah, that could well be a problem as its pretty flakey once a connection is lost during upgrade! Good luck

I've tried enough times I think. Uninstalled and reinstalled the NSU, tried different ports and cables and it's all to no avail.

I'm just going to take it back to the shop and get it sent for repair. Only thing is - It's a vodafone one but I obviously changed the product code. So should I go back to Vodafone or just hand it into a nokia repair centre like the Carphone warehouse?

I'd go for a service center. They can actually fix it wheras vodafone will just send it to a servicecenter or replace it. Also, in my experience, service centers are just interested in fixing the phone and won't be fussed what product code you have. there is a chance vodafone will check this and use it as an excuse to try and screw more money out of you.
I have taken my N95 to a service center twice, the first time it still had EURO1 product code, the second time I had changed it back to the t-mobile one. Both times it came back fine and freshly flashed with the firmware for whatever code I left it with.
In other words, I doubt the service centers even look at the product code.

I've put it in to Carphone warehouse in Edinburgh. Get it back within 48 hours if they can fix it in store. Which hopefully they can.

It was right next to the vodafone shop and I half expected to be told to take it there instead but they weren't too fussed.

Now since my previous phone (vario) has a battery life of 40 minutes, and my one before that (c500) has a broken screen I've had to break out the old trusty still works but by heck it's weird N-Gage. It's like being in the dark ages for a few days!

Hello everyone,

st3ph3n, I have exactly the same problem on my N95 (tried 6 times now to recover). Please let us know whether Carphone Warehouse was able to fix it in store for you.

Thanks

Well had an email from CPWH today - it's been sent back to Nokia.

So I'm still an S60 user, but it's just me and the n-gage for a few weeks until it gets sorted.

Reboot your damn machine before trying upgrades .. as we know USB has problems from time to time .. at least in my experience .. I prefer to start from a known base. I kill firewall and my virus scanner .. kill pretty much all other apps .. especially firefox .. and run backup .. do the upgrade .. run restore .. fix any apps and themes that need fixing (Pearl Black Fire Edition .. just change the date to August or some such ... to fix the certificate timeout ..)
I usually them run through to fix up any minor setting that need adjusting .. especially BlueTooth Keyboard ..
Welp .. enough drunken rambling .. good luck!😊
