Will I be able to access the web via the ftp protocol (as opposed to http) to upload and download file from my site using the browser's capability on the phone?
If I can do this I hope it will also be possible to download pdf files too.
This functionality would be fantastic and I could throw away my laptop!
I would be very suprised if one wasn't on the way. I mean, if someone can be bothered to do one for the 7650 (which someone has - if I remember right), then the P800 is just a matter of time.
It'll come.....
As with Internet explorer you can type;
ftp://[email protected]
And the browser will ask you for the password, then you're into the site and can add/edit/delete files at will.
This is the sort of functionality I expect to get out of the browser on the P800, is this wishful thinking?
OS7 does support FTP as does OS6, so yes it is possible all you need is the program, I'm not sure if the standard browser supports it, maybe Opera will...or a stand alone FTP program.
I wouldn't think it will be too long until someone takes advantage of this feature. 😃
In the latest Opera version (Opera 7 beta 2) you can press (shift+F11) to see how the current website would look like in the small screen rendering. You can see FTP-sites in this mode, but that doesn't say anything about the version for P800 of course... Just thought you should know.....
I think a standalone FTP application (not disimillar to Cute, Bullet or Leech FTP on the PC) would be of great benefit.
Also, a HTML editor (e.g. better than a P800 notepad equivalent) would be really useful for fixing site problems when on the move! Does anyone know if this exists? There's an opportunity waiting for one of the programming gurus out there!

I regularly use Opera on the P800 to access ftp as I have my own private dump site (ahem) which is also full of p800 appz...
If you navigate in Opera to .sis files, you can install them on the fly over gprs 😃 its very cool indeed and allows me to monitor what people are uploading on my ftp from my phone.. which I think is one of the coolest things it can do 😉
