It uses QuickTime's MPEG4 compression, which is pretty good. However, VisualHub and ffmpegX deliver better quality when it comes to movies with fast action... When using VisualHub, use the MPEG4 option with dual pass and a bitrate of 800 kbs, and you'll have great quality clips.
