Flash Lite 3 now available - caveats apply

21 replies · 5,320 views · Started 01 December 2007

Adobe has finally made its Flash Lite 3 beta available for S60 3rd Edition, although both it (and I) stress that this is intended to be for developers only and isn't a consumer-focussed browser-integrated player. Comments welcome below on what Flash Lite 3 can and can't do in its current state (e.g. playing multimedia content). (via SymbianOne)

Read on in the full article.

It runs and installs just fine, It does require a restart for the icon to appear in "Applications".

Handles all the files in the download from ASS .
Checking out http://www.biskero.org/ for more files to test with it.

Anyone got a list of freeware files which will be more challenging and make use of the features in flashlite3?

hi AAS

i had a couple of question.......

1) do you know if the final version of flahsh lite 3 will integrate the preset nokia web-browser ???

You should really use our forums for general questions like this. But, briefly: 1) Yes, 2) the latter, and 3) blame Microsoft for completely screwing around with file formats over the last 15 years!

sorry steve litchfield

didin't know
anyway congrats for the smartphone show

waiting the review of N82 vs N95-8GB

Installed without a hitch, not even a restart.
It now plays the loituma leekpsin swf file, whereas 2.1 gave error 9, so whatever else they've changed, I'm happy!

I'll keep playing, but all seems well so far.

Nokia browser defaults to realplayer so Youtube videos won't still play.

I bet the first that people checked was YouTube...

...and dishearten when RealPlayer came up!

What is the likelyhood of getting a full release version for S60 FP1?

Is it to be vendor bundled in S60 FP2 devices only?

Will S60 FP1 owners ever see browser intregration? Or will Adobe continue to keep it at just a stand-alone app with no YouTube?

Questions to ponder.

I'm off to the discussion forums on the download page to find out!

Don't mistake Mobile YouTube for the regular one. With the former, it's ALWAYS RealPlayer that will come up - after all, it hosts MPEG-4 videos, NOT flash files. With the regular ones, hopefully, Flash Lite will play the videos inline, in the page - just like under Windows Mobile (see my related articles on the latter if interested).

finally.. a version of Flash that fixes those stupid problems I have been experiencing.

I have quite a few swf files on my phone with childrens songs that I play to my son to stop him from misbehaving. Ever since Firmware 12 and above, it never played it properly (worked perfectly fine on V11 though). It will be played very very slowly and at uneven speeds.

This new version works fine and I can once again put my son to sleep with it. hehehe

Ciao,

just wanted to address some questions.
Flash Lite 3 enabled phones will be available in Q1 2008, I am guessing that they will be the S60 3rd Ed Fp2. Integration with the browser will be included in those phones. This version is just for developers and play back only in standalone mode.
Also I think that there will be no firmware update for previous phones with Flash Lite 3 as this was the norm for previous phones.

Alessandro

so theres still no way to make the built in browser to play flasklite 3 to play youtube videos?? not even with a teak??

I apologise if this has been covered or answered previously, but will this install and run on my N95?

I've just done some late reading and determined that FL3 is only for developers at this stage (until later in Q1 2008) and so is not intended for personal end user usage. It does not register embeded files in web browsers, so no You Tube yet. I reckon, let the clever people sort it first and wait for Nokia to release it in a later FW version.
