Dont' know if this is a problem, bug, or features but when I go into my contacts, select who I want to call, and press green to ring them. I then make the call and press red to hang up but this leaves the contacts application in memory.
Is there a way to automatically close this when you press green to dial as I don't want it to remain loaded when I have finished the call and if I need to call someone else I would simply go back into contacts, however how it is now i have to go back into contacts and click back to get out of the contact I have just called before I can re-select.
Any ideas or work arounds.
Surely I am not the only person who suffers from this and finds it frustrating?
Thanks
I think it's as design that it doesn't close Contacts (Symbian OS, being multitasking, shouldn't close things without cause) but I can see your point. One possibility would be to just press the green Call button from the list of contacts, rather than entering the contact's full details - it gives you a choice of which number to use if there's more than one, and when you return to Contacts, you're still on the contacts list, with any filters used cancelled.
I know what you mean, it was in V12 and still in V20, Agreeing that Symbian is a multitasking OS, even so an exit button should erm exit?
In V20 gallery application does the same - most annoying,
The gallery application annoys me like this sometimes, but its just a minor irritation really.
A lot of the pre-installed applications do this - the exit button seemingly has no actual function other than to return the user to the idle screen. I use a 3rd party program to kill them. The most annoying part is that these open apps really do use up memory, sometimes quite a good deal of it.
This (I call it a bug) irritation was present in my N80, and sadly is carried over to the N95. Given only 15 or 20 megs free on V20 firmware, 5 to 7 on V12, it is really inappropriate to leave stuff open. Without 3rd party applications, a few of these things just don't close at all.
I use a third party application to close them. With my N95, I find the menu, log amd contacts refusing to close and I just kill them with the 3rd party app.
why not just hold the C button in task manager menu on the applications you want to close? simple and quick.

Yeah, handy taskman does that but I often find I have to 'kill' rather than 'close' it to get rid. Even switching to it and selecting close still leaves it in memory. Weird.

Yes, one way around this is to use SkyeQuiKey. This program is excellent and you will not have the Contacts App running after making a call. In fact, you don't need the Contacts App running to even look up the number. Just key in the numbers representing the letters of the name of the contact you want, up pops your contact after justa few key presses, click to dial and that's it. Easy peasy.
