Music playback with V20 - noise?

15 replies · 4,281 views · Started 02 December 2007

Hi guys... has anyone else noticed crackling or slight noise when you play music with the new firmware? it tends to happen when you open another app, sms, or stuff like that.

I think the on-demand paging is to blame.. but it could just be me 😊 your thoughts?

Perfect here! I just opened Music Player, started a WMA file, opened Calcium, Opera Mini 4 (and loaded this page) then opened Y tasks to check free memory (19Mb). I have also been running Music Player as a background to a slide show from Gallery. I have tried swapping quickly in and out of the open apps.

Sweet As! No crackles, glitches or other stuff whatsoever into my Beyer DT231 headphones.

I am SO IMPRESSED with Demand Paging!!!!!

No crackling. However, a VERY quiet hiss is still present - this can be particularly annoying with operating system beeps. With music, not that annoying.

I've noticed it too. I've got over 24 hours of MP3s on my 6Gb card and every now and then the music seems to hiccup. A couple of days later I didn't notice it anymore though.

thanks for your input guys 😊 i've tried restarting my phone and running lots of apps and none as well, yet there still are slight hiccups. weird... never happened before. and its definitely not my earphones, cuz ive tried it with all 3 of mine (cheap nokia, mid range sony, high end sennheiser) so its something to do with the phone..

or maybe im just too picky with how it sounds? 😉

That hiss has been there on my phone since V12 came out. Was perfectly quiet in V11.. They still must not have fixed it then..

I.ve been appalled by the N95's sound quality since day one, its disgusting!!
Compared to my N91 it sounds like a spectrum!!

yeah i think the quality isnt up to snuff either! its such a pity that for such a high end device, the quality is surpassed. and there's no way to make it better besides tweaking the equalizer, is there? 😞

Have you compared your N95 with any others? Could be that yours is faulty. If I listen to a high quality audio file using good headphones I get very good quality reproduction - with a small amount of added hiss. No crackles, no drop outs at all.

Might be worth getting it checked over at a NSC.

nope.. havent had the chance to yet, cuz the guys here dont even know which phone is the N95! they see mine and go "whoah" and thats abt it. its a different thing about the iDiotphone - which i blatantly tell them that its a load of crap with a shiny wrapper compared to my phone. and when i show them the light sabre, hahah they just laugh their heads off!

i doubt mine is faulty, because it was fine with ver11 and 12. only now with v20 it has the crackles. i thought it could be a dodgy memory card, but it still crackles even when i stream from my pc, so thats definitely outta the question. my last resort is to reset the phone again, but im holding that back to the last minute 😊

then again, like i previously said, i could just be very picky with my audio 😊 the crackles is prob very minor to most, but i love my music and its quality, so yeah..

as for NSCs, i cant do that because i live in Australia, where there's no such thing. and i got my phone from overseas, which complicates it even more 😃 I'm still a very happy N95 user, i just thought maybe its a common thing for that crackle to come with v20..

no lack of sound quality noticed here. not when playing music anyway.

the one thing i do hear is a slight hiss noise kick in JUST before and after the bleep of my message alert tone and thats only noticable in a silent room (which i don't have the pleasure of often anyway) and can easily be excused.

fair enough.. thats been there for ages now anyways. hmm.. it looks like i will have to bear with it, or maybe try a reflash of my phone then..

I just wanted to update this thread with recent events.

My new phone's starting to hiccup the music now. It does it even moreso while I'm scrolling through my playlists while the music is playing.

Has anyone heard anything more about this and what we can do about it?

I get crackling, little jumps, and odd noises all the time, particularly whenever the phone feels like I glanced at it with some kind of 'look' in my eyes. On the upside, no hiss at all. When it does actually manage to string a few untainted seconds of music together, it does so pretty damn well.

reflashing your phone wont fix it..

As I said before - its a firmware issue since V12 and they have not fixed it yet unfortunately. Mine was fine in V11 and only changed since then.

I never noticed the problem when I had v12 on my phone before. Then again, some peeps didn't notice the keypress bug on their v12 phones. Maybe I was lucky before reflashing my phone?
