I know using assisted GPS costs money, but what about network-based GPS?
Does network-based GPS cost money to use?
Anything that uses your phone companies network is probably going to cost money.

It depends what exactly you mean.
If you are referring to A-GPS (assisted GPS) this uses the N95s built in GPS but sends a small amount of data to a server to aid getting the initial fix. It speeds up the fix time from up to 5 minutes to less than 30 seconds but yes this will cost you dependant on your network charges. It only involves approximately 6kb of data so if you have unlimited data or a data package of some kind you should be fine but do check as some charge by the Mb so paying for 1Mb and only using 6kb here and there is obviously not ideal.
If you are referring to cell-based locating like Psilocs mini-gps does then, no, this just uses the GSM cells to approximate position so is free but very inaccurate.

I'm referring to Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Positioning > Positioning methods > Network based
😊
