The java runtime should be installed, but remember this is the J2ME runtime. noot J2SE or midp
where do i find the J2ME Runtime? Is it included in the installation disc?
I converted a file from cd to wav, sounds great in my communicator, whadya think?
i can't add an attachment
I should be pre-installed...
a ok, sorry to bother again but what j2me programs are compatible with my phone? i was able to download .jar files but it comes up as a zip file in my phone, and when i open the .jar file there are *.class files, upon clicking this files my phone just says Loading Java and Starting Java... but other than that it stops doing anything, do i need to extract these files and place them in a certain directory where it can be run?
Thanks again...
😃
i removed the zip manager and the file ended up being opened by file viewer 3.01, i removed that also and then I can't open the *.jar file anymore, a 'no installed application for the file' warning came out...
thanx again in advance...
aj
the starting java is the correct thing you should see. But Java sucks on the 9210 :s
The 9210 jvm doesn't run as it should on the 'low' specs of the 9210.
Closing all other apps (giving you as much memory as possible) will get you in the msot apps.
Try rebooting the phone first before trying to run those apps.
Or better yet, try a opl or c++ application first.
ok, now you lost me...
i have a new problem, my phone can't read the *.jar files now.
i don't know how to start opl or c++ applications, care to give me a quick tutorial? :fadein:
anyways, im thinking of a solution similar to Laura's case which I read in a previous thread where she had a problem with jar files... Godfather or was it you Dazler adviced her to download the java runtime at forum.nokia and install it. my problem is which software program should i download? I went to forum.nokia and i got confused as to which software to download...
thanks again 😊
If it's opl that you need you have to download it and intall it. It is not included in the 9210 (my 9210i didn't have it).
I'll try to add an attachment with the opl sis...but i'm not good in dealing with attachments...
Maybe someone will give you the exact place where to download it!!
It is not allowed to add as atachment the OPL.
Just link, please.
So, here it is...
http://www.symbian.com/developer/downloads/v6oplrun.html
Sorry TheSpecialBoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😮ops: :P
ive installed the OPL runtime already,
i think i understand what you're telling me Dazler, running OPL apps will free up some RAM right, and then I could start the Java applications already, my problem right now is I can't install the Micro Java apps since my phone doesn't understand the language, a 'no installed application for the file' warning comes up everytime i try to open *.jar files...
can I install the same *.jar files that I installed in my girlfriend's 7650 into my 9210i? can you please give me a link of microjava apps that is compatible to my phone? preferably an app that you've installed in your 9210i... Thanks 😊
I was able to download the nokia testing suite at forum.nokia and it says in the installation guide that I can install the file NTS9200.sis file after installing the NTS in my laptop, I have compatibility problems with the Nokia Testing Suite and my IBM laptop so I can't install it, ergo I can't copy the NTS9200.sis Is this the runtime i need to run/install micro java applications? Please advice... Thanks 😃

THe opl/c++ statement was me saying that opl and c++ apps run way better on the 9210 than any java app. So it's worth checking if there ain't any opl/c++ program with the same functions as your java app.
I don't think 7650 java apps are compatible (have no idea actualy)
Also make sure that there is a difference between Midp apps or Java apps on the 9210.
Every midp app that works on the 7650 will be able to run on the 9210 (if you've download the midp runtime from forum.nokia)
The midp files are also jar files. So check the apps website to check if it is a midp app or not. If not, bad luck ? ...
Good luck!
I think I got the midp-app from here
http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/1,,1_0_55_40,00.html#9210
It was a beta but seemed to work. Only it really didn't. I got a couple (at least one stopwatch-kind of thing) midlet working, I guess I tried three or four. Then I gave up. Maybe I'll get back to the problem some day...
TipicMe (the free jabber client midp) works, I use it on my 9210 to chat to msn 😊
thank you very much,
i have a collection of wav's, i converted them from the cd's that i bought to wav and mp3 files, i use my phone to listen to them, I want to share them to AAS but I can't attach a file, maybe i'll upload them to n9210.co.uk 8)
I have a problem though (again 😉 )
the wav files sounds great in my communicator but not in my gf's 7650, how come?
thank you for your help!! 😃
I was able to install the MIDP runtime, I can install some MIDP, what about Java? I still get the same starting java, loading java message appearing whenever i try to open .class files... is it normal? looking at my rom drive i saw that there exists a Z:\Systems\Java folder, what is this folder doing there? :-?
if you download from here www.forum.nokia.com/files/nds_disclaimer/1,1183,1962,00.html this will download a file called cawt.jar
now you have this download select office>file manager>now press the keypad menu button>use arrow keys and scroll to tools>select option settings>show system directory = yes then press done..
Now with file manager locate the downloaded file cawt.jar highlight it cawt.jar now from the screen buttons press Move a drives/folders menu will appear on the screen you now press browse and select system>java>ext and press ok
now the missing and needed 9210 Java file has been intergrated into your system. Nokia had forgotten to package this file with the shipped product.
.
Next the Java Midlet Tool.
You download this file www.forum.nokia.com/main/1,35452,030,00.html?fsrParam=2-3-/main/1,35452,030,00.html&fileID=2127 and save it as before now you will need to go into file manager again highlight the dowloaded file MIDP_beta_sw_for_9210.sis then press ok from the screen keyboard to install.
After installation the new application should be in the extras screen of your 9210
Now when you download midlet files these allways end in
.jad and .jar
you can use file manager or you new extras midlet application tool for to install these files that you have downloaded.
To install first select and highlight the .jad file and selecting OK from the screen button this will automatically load the
.jar file in also and install your downloaded midlet.
.
If all ok and the Midlet was compitable with your 9210 the application can be run from your new Midlet Application tool in Extras.
.
By installing the cawt.jar as above your 9210 is now java compatiable.
By installing the MIDP_beta_sw_for_9210.sis for the midlet software as above your 9210/9210i/9290 is now midlet compatiable for running your downloaded java midlets.
NOTE::
The above two files for
Cawt.jar
and the
MIDP_beta_sw_for_9210.sis
Will be dowloade from www.forum.nokia.com you will need to login or sign up for free registration, before you will be allowed to download these files.
thanks, my 9210i is now compatible with Java Midlets, i have installed the MIDP_beta.sis already....
I've downloaded the cawt.jar file as well but I can't move it to system\java\ext coz that file is located in the ROM drive and that drive is write protected, i can't move the file... how's that? my phone is 9210i, firnware 5.34
Thanks again!!! 😊
I've tried copying the java folder from the ROM to the MMC and followed your instruction, same problem... 😞
let the java be in the z drive, no need to copy it. But just create a directory for cawt.jar on the c/d drive with the same name.
Symbian os will always check z:\map\files c:\map\files d:\map\files
so any files that may be needed can be placed in c or d with the same map.
a ok, that's a useful advice... thanks... 😃 didn't know that... hehehe
can somebody send me the MIDP tool to [email protected]
because the link at forum.nokia is not working
thx
