Evening, I have just got a new N95 8gb and i am wanting to use my Tom Tom software. sorry for my ignorance but i have never used a Bluetooth GPS Reciever and that where my problem lies:

Which one? there are a lot of models on ebay all claiming to be the best?...

Could anyone point me in the right direction and let me know what features i need to be looking for so i dont end up with some cheap tat from hong kong lol...

also here are some links to the ones i have looked at on ebay....

Any help and info would be appreciated, cheers

Hi hoppi05

I use a Holox BT-321 which is an older version of your second link as i have had it a few Years now it uses the RFD chip which is actually faster than the Sirf111 chip and has never failed me. It also has great battery life and can even be charged via a mini USB. I have no hesitation in recommending the Holox as it really is a good piece of kit with great battery life you need to make sure you have Tom Tom 6 for S60 3rd Edition.

Marc

Can't you just use different navigation software until tomtom will release update for built in gps? Route 66 for example works really well for me...

Before N95 I was using HOLUX GPS SLIM which is brilliant for its size, but now it's just lying in the drawer because I'd rather sacrifice not using TomTom for a while over convenience of not having to carry another thing with me.

As for your types - holOx : that tells me everything about the quality...Like nokLa N95

Cheers guys, ummmm so is there any ETA on tom tom releasing a compatible bit of software?

IMHO.

I_blue 757 (solar) or 737 (non-solar), both are fantatsic.. very fast and accurate signal processing.

I have a Nokia LD-3W, very fast and rock solid. also uses the same charger as the N95 and it comes with a DC-4 to charge the Phone and GPS receiver in the car.

@rottie

Where that's where you are wrong as the Holox is actually a great little receiver and as i said both uses the RFD chip and i think the BT-321 is a 26 channel receiver. It is not a dodgy copy of anything just a good product at a good price so don't knock it unless you have tried it and found it wanting.

Marc

I have a holux BT-321 I think its a pretty good piece of kit and should do you fine.

The number of channels a BT receiver supports is irrelevant there are only 24 working satellites that span the entire globe so at any one time your only ever going to see about 8 in the sky at any given location in the world. This may change in the future but the ability to "ACQUIRE 40 SATELLITES FOR ULTIMATE FAST FIX!!!!!1111" is nice but currently pointless.

What is important is the sensitivity ( in dbMs ) the lower the better. the best chips sets have already been mentioned. Try for one between -157 and -159DBms
