Tired thoughts - N95 Hybrid

Hi,

As I was in bed trying to decide whether to keep my N95-1 or get an N82 or even N95 8Gb I wondered...

Could I get the N95 8GB and merge with the N95-1??

I guess it would be feasible to get N95-2 casing and try to get an LCD and put it on my N95-1

I like the bigger screen, having compared side by side it looks so much better with them extra 0.2" even at QVGA.

While the larger LCD screen might work (assuming it uses the same connector to the control board as the N95-1) you would still not be able to merge them since both phones have different physical dimensions. You're stuck with one or the other unfortunately - unless you own yourself a plastic injection molding fab and have the knowhow to craft up your own phone housing. 😊

I was under the impression that the only dimension that differed was the thickness of the device:con?

Actually, it's "as I lay in bed".

Were you in bed with him/her?

BLIMEY! it's a bit risque in here today!

Besides, he might have "laid" in bed (again subject to significant other being present). Or, if he was a chicken he might have laid an egg. But then that would be a nest not a bed (surely?).

Did we over-analyse grammar enough yet?

😉

Are people bored at work today more than usual by any chance??😉

Quite frankly your use of multiple question marks is offensive...

(Note: My grammar-nazism is entirely tongue in cheek, in case there's any amiguity remaining...)

No, they both share the same stats:

Length(max): 99 mm
Width(max): 53 mm
Thickness(max): 21 mm

Although the 8GB is 8 grams heavier. However, they are quite different due to the battery and lens cover.

Dispite nokia talking bollocks about it being what most customers asked for, the real reason they got rid of the lens cover on the 8GB version is for the bigger battery, which will not fit in the original N95. Unless of course you use a bigger back cover, which makes the dimensions different.

Its my bet nokia didnt want to do this.

Now what you would REALLY want to do is somehow transplant the N95 8GB screen to the N82. That would be even more difficult mind 😉

Go for it yade!

I have thought about this too and think the hybrid N95/N95 8Gb would be superb!

If it works I'm having one too.

Getting rid of that freakin' appalling 95-1 shutter was the best thing Nokia ever did.

Think the hybrid would have to keep the lovely shutter as the rear case may have to stay the same, to give mem. card access.

I wonder if you would need a whole new slider or just the screen, keypad & front cover?

And when you're done with it could you please also fit all the N95 hardware into an E61i casing?
That would be on my christmas wish list!

Yup, no prob. Sounds like Nokia custom build division are going to have their hands full!

Looks like I will be the first to try this. I have ordered the N95-2 Front cover, buttons and LCD, due for delivey on Friday. I will keep you posted on my findings. If that works then I will see what I can do to fit the BL-6F into the phone without sacraficing the lens cover. i think it may well be possible by either buying the N95-2 rear casing or a slight modification to the existing one.

Fair play, brave man.

And before/during/after pictures would be a good idea.

What 1 picture of the phone working and 1 with the phone in flames:tongue:

Why do you call the 95-8 (GB), a 95-2 ?

N95 = 95-1
N95 3G USA = 95-3
N95 8GB = 95-8

Incidentally, I'll give anyone doubles on the hybridisation ending in two shafted phones.
No WAY does it have a prayer of working - you don't need an engineering Ph.D to see that.
But at least the guy should make a video of it, so at least we can all have some entertainment.

Someone will make a hybrid someday. Why not yade?

Way to GO!

The bigger BL-6F battery from the N95-2 8GB fits in an N95-1 but the battery cover won't then go back on. There are some moulding fins on the back that could be filed off and it might then fit.

N95-1 (RM-159) the original N95
N95-2 (RM-320) the 8GB version. Bigger BL-6F battery, bigger screen, more RAM, no sliding lens cover, 8GB but no memory slot.
N95-3 (RM-160) the US version. BL-6F battery, bigger screen, more RAM?, no sliding lens cover, memory slot, US 3G frequencies
N95-5 (RM-245) Chinse model. Similar to N95-1 but no wi-fi.
