If you can do these at a reasonable cost i'd be well up for that. I'd love one in a similar colour to the Nissan Primera GTSE:
Tired thoughts - N95 Hybrid

First of all, I thought your rather nonsensical assignation was based on a profound need for order (numerical sequentiality) - but I see that you haven't assigned anything as a 95-4.
So, one must infer that it's either partially (and therefore wrongly) sequential - or purely arbitrary ... in which case, of what benefit is it ?
At the risk of inferring that you have failed to appreciate the accepted reassignation of the N95 series, I shall explain it.
95-1 : - quite obviously "1" makes it the original.
95-8 : - "8" rather obviously suggests "8GB"
95-3 : - just MIGHT suggest 3G, as in 3G-USA
And since the object of reassignation is brevity and clarity, it might seem appropriate to assign the Chinese version as the 95-C.
The difficulty with your reassignation is that it bears no relation to the actual names - and therefore gives no indication as to what you might be referring to.
All a bit Asperger's, IYAM.

Try reading the thread then.
Thanks, but you should see Ive quoted someone else. Which obviously should have been posted on this thread: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/67359/

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. These are the Nokia assigned model numbers, printed on the label on the back under the battery. You can download the User Guides for each model and check if you like, it's the very first thing in the "Useful Information" section. I foolishly thought that it might help clear up any confusion about which model was which.
And it's Asperger syndrome, no possessive.

Sure, but the only people who would understand that assignation would be those who a) have/had all the phones and b) had bothered to check the boxes for said assignations.
How many people would that be ?
Surely, it's more appropriate to use the obvious, lay convention already in use ?
Out of curiosity, it would be VERY interesting to know the kinds of percentages of Autistic spectrum disorder sufferers that frequent techy forums such as our own, very august one.

I see where you're coming from, but why wouldn't it apply to this thread ?
I suggest you go back to bed, and get out of the opposite side you got up from this morning tbh.

Hi Hi,
Got to agree with you bartmanekul ! Is He grumpy or what?

But what if Nokia release an official N95-8? 😊
Isn't part of the spectrum actually labelled "Member of 5 or more Intenet technical fora"?
bartmanekul wrote:Did you just get the wrong thread? Because you confused me completely for a minute.
Indeed I did sir,

Subjective, your Honour.
Don't mistake a distaste for misleadingness for grumpiness.
You obviously ain't seen grumpy.

Well, I guess Nokia MIGHT release a 95-8 - but as it would be of the (box-label) model assignation that someone was just fried for using, I guess it wouldn't be the marketed model name (eg - N95 8GB).

Who was fried for using what?

In that case, welcome to my ignore list. Cba to argue pointless pedantic things on forums. With someone who cant admit they were wrong.
*If* its successful, and if you carry on using the 950 battery, Id like to see some comparisions of batterylife. One of the biggest sources of battery drain is the screen, which makes you wonder. Did they make the battery bigger on the 8GB model because of the moans from N95 original owners, or because of the addition of a bigger screen?
andykn wrote:Who was fried for using what?
You ?
Nokia technical model names ?
OK, maybe 'fried' was a bit strong - but I was being put on a guilt trip at the time.
But I don't agree that I'm grumpy.
I'd rather be a 'bully' than grumpy.

So the US version N95-3 has a different cover to ours so you can accommodate the larger battery, and it also has the memory card slot.
As long as the phone underneath is the same for N95-3 as the N95-1, then presumably we can swap the cover over to the N95-3s cover and we'll be able to get the bigger battery in. We would lose the camera cover in the process, but to me the bigger battery would be better trade.
We can't use the N95-2 cover as it doesn't have the memory card slot.

If it sucessful I will be very happy. If its not and I dont destroy my phone, I wont be too bothered and will just send the stuff back....Happy Days!

We know the BL-6F fits without the battery cover on but I dont want to lose the lens cover so that needs looking into!!
I cant find the N95-3 covers in the UK so using the N95 8GB wouldnt be a problem for me to be honest, The cover comes off so easily that I would get my memory card out that way. I dont remove it much anyway and can deal with the low transfer rate over USB using the cable. The only thing I want that the N95 8GB cant offer is future expansion!
To add, if this works how wierd will my phone look with Black front and Plum back!!

Ok, done a bit of research on this and the flash on the N95-3 is in a different place to the N95-1, so we can't use the N95-3 case. Boo
EDIT: Also the flash on the N95-2 is in the same place as the N95-3.

.... I didn't say a word.
Phase 1 is the front of the phone, screen etc. If that works I will then go onto phase 2, if it doesnt I will give up.
Phase 2 is looking into accommodating the BL-6F
Incidentally battery life has never been a major problem for me, I have 3 BL-5F's and I charge every single night, when I'm in my car and when I am at work!
More power to you yade!
If the N95 is "what Multimedia Computers have become", then they should be capable of customisation. If you don't get there first, some Chinese person will and will probably have a kit of parts for sale PRONTO too!.
In answer to Bart's question about battery life, the 8Gb screen is supposed to be brighter as well as bigger, so surely we can turn the brightness down in order to get more battery life - or make it time out faster - either way, not a problem in my view.
It could be that the underlying parts of the slider are different, so it may be worth connecting the screen and testing it before finishing the installation. At least that way you will know if you are on the right track or not.
Good Luck,
s.
Thanks mate,
Like I said, its lots of if's and buts but you dont know until you have tried and I dont think I have much to lose. The worst case is I destroy my 8 months old N95 which is a little worse for wear anyway and I'll have to replace it.
I might film the progress tomorrow.
My girlfriend said im a geek and need to get a life
My Missus says the same!
Video would be a good idea - if only so you can figure out how it goes back together!
Cheers,
s.
Id think youd only break the phone if you were very unlucky/clumsy.
Remember the pictures!
OK heres where it begins. I havent got far as I cant find my Torx drivers. Quick visit to Maplin needed. Will try to film what I am doing but will be on a crappy webcam!
Good Luck / How's it goin / Any news?

@yade
Cool project, but you'll need the N95 8GB slider unit, as this is different from that used in N95-1. The Front-cover won't fit. Despite this it wouldn't look good as the N95-1 slider unit is silver, not black.
