Please Go Away!!

Basically, i keep getting phone calls from my old phone insurers, because my girlfriend has cut off the direct debit that pays them because quite frankly they are crap.

Obviously they keep ringing my phone, at least twice an hour, and everytime i answer, they tell me they wont speak to me even though its my phone, they will only speak to her. But all i want to do is tell them to (in nice words) GO AWAY 🙄

Is there a program, or something pre-built into my N95, that i can use to block certain numbers, or stop them from ringing me altogether??

*hopes and prays* :icon14:

Next time they ring, tell them your on the TPS (Telephone Preferance Service) and that this is your final instruction to them to remove your details and absolutly no more contact.

If they continue you will contact the relevant organisations as its now harassment. If there is a payment dispute its nothing to do with you.

If they persist, log the calls, such as what time etc.

There are a number of Ball List type programs that will reject calls on the black list you create. Some are good, some not so, and some come with bells and whistles. However, S60 recently were giving away CallFilter, which for free is quite good, simply not letting blacklisted numbers through. Not sure if it's still free though.

TPS only applies for cold calls / marketing. If they already have a relationship and number (especially chasing a debt), they are entitled to ignore TPS.

Yeah, I wasnt sure about if it was about the debt, or starting up again.

However, if your not the person that they need to speak to and its your number, they do not have the right to keep harassing you. Tell them this, and that your logging the calls.

However make sure your gf sorts it out, otherwise nasty things happen. She will suddenly find she cannot get things due to being blacklisted etc.

Its not perfect but if you know the number they call from you can add it to a caller group and then set the phone profile so that it doesn't ring for numbers in the caller group... the phone will still "wake up" when a call comes through but there will be no ringtone or vibration (if enabled).

Caller groups are managed via the Contacts app, and the groups that the profile will ring for are set using the "Alert For" option in the Tools\Profile\Personalize settings...

I basically use this to stop my phone from ringing unless the caller is a "VIP" or a "friend" when I'm feeling antisocial...

I learnt when I was in a call centre for Sky Sales that if you call up a customer three or more times in one particular day when they don't want to be contacted, then this is classed as harrassment and you can report them to the police.

Hence, whenever this has happened to me on my mobile and it gets out of control, I've said "Stop calling me or I'll report you to the police for harrassment!" (then hang up) and I don't get any further calls.

If the debt is paid (nothing outstanding) then tell them you do not want any further contact and you will report them to the police if they continue to bother you. If they still ring, follow through the threat.

Hello guys, thanks for your replies.

Just to clear up a little more. It isnt actually a debt that they are owed, the insurance is paid on a month by month basis, and if its not paid, then im not insured.

So i believe the reason they keep ringing me is to inform me of the fact of the direct debit being cancelled, which i already know because i told my girlfriend to do it!

I told them when i spoke to them at the end of last week, the only day they will get my girlfriend near my phone is Friday or Saturday because i dont live near her, but no they still want to call me in the middle of the week! GRRR!! lol

I think ill have a look for this "CallFilter", as they are starting to drive me loopy now lol 😊

Yeah, it's paid monthly but maybe she has signed the contract for a period of time, and that's why she owes them money for every month of this period.

Naa mate, i was there when she got the contract for me, and when i got the separate insurance, it was a birthday pressie for me in August :icon14:

Its definately not a fixed term insurance contract.
