Do Nokia warranty the batteries?

I bought a second BL-5F but 6 months later it has packed up. I took it to a service center as they do free testing and it came back as being unable to take charge (essentially duff). It was a genuine Nokia one (confirmed by entering the serial number on Nokia's website) so I'm not happy about the short life, especially considering it was only being used when I was away from a charger for longer than a day (hiking, weekends away, business trips etc).

You weren't charging it using one of those desktop chargers were you?

Maybe

Are they not a good idea? If I plead ignorance with Nokia, any chance they'll replace it?

I'd hazard a guess that's whats killed it. The desktop chargers just keep charging the battery continuously and it ends up ruining them. I've been through a few batteries before I realised what wass killing them on one of my old phones

It's always worth giving it a shot getting it replaced under warranty, not sure whether they will go for it though......😎

Just out of interest, what difference does using a desktop charge make? I have one but it's still using the Nokia mains charger. Isn't it just a bit of extra cable?

No, the charging circuit in the phone cut's off the supply of current to the battery when it is full. This is fine if you are charging the battry on the desk stand if the battery is in the phone. However, if it is one of these desktop items that also charges a 2nd battry in a piggy-backed style configuration, there is usually no circuit to stop the charging.

Ah right, I see. I don't use a second battery but just wanted to check using a desktop stand wasn't killing my battery.

Cheers.
