PDA Essentials magazine issue 69 is on the streets now in the UK, with a head-to-head of 'Smartphones under £250'. The Nokia 6120 Classic stole the show (and no, I didn't write the review) with the top score of 9/10 and with the editor declaring that it "is a great smartphone that simply works well and has the features to match".

One of the best phones I have used, all the features most people will ever need (well maybe another couple of pixels in the camera and autofocus). Most people are amazed its a full s60 3rd edition phone with HSDPA as it looks like a standard run of the mill nokia! Now if only Nokia considered it an n-series and let us have all those nice music store/n-gage stuff!
Yup, the 6120 is definitely the best smartphone at the moment IMHO, really great value for money.
For example, the 6120 pretty much matches the N81 spec for spec, but the 6120 is one third of the price, much smaller and much lighter.
mvn, Nokia have now actually said that N-gage will be available on non-Nseries S60 models. As the 6120 seems to be their best-selling non-Nseries S60 model, it seems to be the most likely current candidate to be added to the N-Gage service.
Yes, I agree. I love it.
Wish they would develope a better battery for it.
Cheers,
JK
The 6120 Classic is a great smartphone for its price, with my only complaint is with the built materials used. The casing looks beautiful, but feels plasticky, and the chrome of the Navi pad got scratched off bit by bit after a few weeks of usage.
ummm.....if it had a better battery life, have non-plasticky feeling, and the chrome lasted long, it wouldn't have been a great smartphone for its PRICE. Sometimes one just have to give and take.
Pure Class is right. I've been using my 6120c now for about two months, and absolutely love it and am glad to see it get a bit of the recognition it's due. This is a real beauty of a smartphone, and I consider myself a "power user"of technology. It's powerful yet compact, looks lovely, works beautifully. I have loaded up a 2gb card with music (with album art), Nokia Maps, Amazegps, Google maps, Nokia Audiobooks, Spdtronic internet radio, Nokia's new Internet Radio, games, converted movies and tv episodes, etc. etc. They all work great, and I've found this is a truly converged device that is still discreet and handy. Yes, the camera could be a lot better, but it's still OK for quick snapshots. People are amazed when they see it's clear screen and capabilities. I really think this is one of the best devices Nokia has produced. Wish they would support it on Nokia Music Store though...
It is superb. It can simultaneously flawlessly play a full frame rate, full sized (unconverted) video with CorePlayer, with audio, and play music using music player, mixing the audio, and take a phone call, and provide 3G (3.5G when off the call) broadband mobile internet to my laptop, all at once. Given the cost, size and weight, it is really fantastic. I hate to admit it but I like it more than the N95 8GB, not what I expected before I tried the latter!
It is also robust. Cosmetically it takes a punishing before scratches appear, and you can get new cases off EBay cheap anyway. The camera is the best 2MP out there.
Nokia had better bloody well put N-Gage on it 😊
'Smartphones under 250'.
Ands its now almost 100 cheaper than that on a well known Uk site (ex...)

And the Music Store...........
It's free for most people (upgrades or with contract), was for me.
If you haven't tried Quake on it, I strongly recommend it, even just as a demo of the phone capability. Proves you don't need a 3D chip to do good 3D!

(You want the non-FPU version)
6120 is a class act indeed - if you want all it has to offer and more, with a superb finish and excellent battery, the E51 may be worth a look.
It has blown me away with the performance and quality and the tiny size. Sheer class with a shiny metal finish that my car keys have yet to put a scratch on...
6120 supports SDHC Cards - though official limited to 2GB by Nokia. My SanDisk SDHC 4GB works fine!
