I had an N95 for almost 5 months but last week I was getting "sim card registration failed" messages on it all the time. After a couple of calls to my provider (o2) they confirmed for me that my phone had been blacklisted because it had been reported as stolen!!!
Anyway I took it back to the shop last Friday and got a new N95 today, but it seems a tiny bit different. It feels lighter than my first one, and it also has "Nokia Nseries" printed on the battery cover on the back. My old one had just "Nokia" written on it. Other than that they're exactly the same.
Have Nokia changed their N95 at all over the last 5 months, or is it simply a cosmetic change and weight shedding?

is the back cover black or brown? Do you still have the lens cover?
The back is plum like my old one, and yes I still have the lens cover. Both N95s I've had were N95-1.
Yeah. Before it would just say "Nokia" (and as a result it was more central on the back). They're both definately N95-1's, I've been on these forums long enough to tell the difference 😉
Might've the old one been an imported one or anything? Anyone shed any light?

I think Nokia have two manufacturing plants, one in China and one in Finland. maybe from different plants? I think that parts of the IMEI show where and when it was made, there's more info on Wikipedia.
Beware mate, i know theyre are alot of clones going around in leicester. They retails for the 150 mark. I havent bought one myself but will try to find out if there are any obvious differences to help people differentiate.
Thanks for the help everyone. Neither of the phones are clones. For a start they both slide both ways and the clones tend not to, and the firmware updates on them just fine. Also, everyone else I know has Nseries written on the back and the new one I've got works just the same as the old one.
It could be that my first one was made in a different factory. It sounds like the most plausable explination.
Strange, i've jus had my n95 replaced by o2 but no nseries on the back
got mine new from O2 at the beginning of Oct and it has Nokia, Nseries on the back.
i have seen 3rd party and even 1st party replacements that don't have the Nseries on the back, could be a reconditioned unit
Actually, thinking about it, I should've included a couple of photos with the difference.
The first one is a photo of what I had before... and the 2nd one is a photo I've just taken of my new one.

Zxon, I'm surprised you're asking this question.
When I was home last, remember me picking yours up & commenting that yours was slightly heavier. You'd asked me even before then if mine just had 'Nokia' printed on the back & mine had 'Nokia Nseries'. I got mine direct from O2, in fact its the 2nd one coz they made me send the 1st one back eventhough there was nothing wrong with it.
Anyway, companies are always improving their product - either it being through firmware updates or making the product smaller / lighter (or both). Look at the PSone, PS2 & PSP for example, Sony made improvements & were able to make the newer machines smaller than the originals.
Did you ever hear anything back from O2 about the whole farce?

Hi xebo (bro!). You make a good argument there, and yeah I'd forgotten that I'd made that comment on your N95.
Nah, haven't heard anything since. I know there's an officer in Leeds investigating in to the situation but it's unlikely I'll hear what the outcome is.
Does the one that says N series have any provider logos/firmware? i think the non branded ones carry the N series logos?

Both N95-1's I got had o2 branded firmware on it, but no logos were stuck physically on the phone's casing. The only difference software-wise was that the first one came with v11 and the 2nd one had v12 instead. Makes sense since v12 came out within the 5 month period that I had the first phone.
