How do I get gmail to be a working email client on my phone?
I didn't get it working so far, can anybody help me?

Greetings,

The easiest way is to use the gmail client app. Point your phone browser at www.gmail.com/app

You can set it up using POP but it's a bit fiddly and I find it difficult to do any more advanced things like flagging, archiving etc.
If you can use IMAP (which not all gmail accounts can) it is a bit better as you have folders which correspond to labels and can flag (star) items etc: Here are the settings for IMAP http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=78799

The app is easily the best way though and it's only limitation is you can't attach files. What I do is use the app for most stuff but set up imap too for the odd occasion when I want to send an attachment.

Thanx alot, I've downloaded it and I can use maps and flags etc. but one question left, does dis app notify me when I have email, when I'm doing something else with my phone, like the gmail notifier for windows does?

Personal choice I know, but I disagree. I use ProfiMail with Google and with that, I can send attachments, it polls my mailbox on regular basis to check for new mail, sounding an alert when it finds some, and also handles IMAP. As a bonus, it's really easy to use and has ability to set rules, add signatures, address book handling.

Ok, let me qualify it by saying 'the best free way'.
