I know quite a few N95 and E90 owners have been waiting for this (I gave in and bought a 6GB microSDHC last week!), but it seems that the official SanDisk 8GB microSDHC cards are now available in the UK . The price is £55 inc VAT.
Read on in the full article.
I don't know if someone brought this up, but Verizon in the States has been selling 8gb Sandisk microSD cards for a couple weeks now. I just haven't found the $100 lying around to buy one yet.
This is great. Now with cards like these, do we really need hard disks in our phones? Plus, from what i heard, transfer rates while copying files is faster in case of the cards than in case of hard disks.
Yawn..... old news Steve. I bought mine from a certain "warehouse" ages ago. (OK, I paid more than 55 quid but still, they're always more expensive ) 😉
Steve's news says 'official' which I take to mean those that were previously available were grey import.
Yes, by official, I mean pukka SanDisk (or other top branded), as opposed to cheap SanDisk knockoffs or other miscellaneous sources 8-)
I got burn by a SanDisk knock off a year ago when I bought what I thought was an official SanDisk 2Gb card from a seller on eBay, but when it arrived it worked very patchily, didn't have the correct packaging and the card itself wasn't 'etched'. Buyers beware - only buy from reputable suppliers and shops *in your own country*. I felt so strongly about this at the time that I even wrote http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/cards.htm
One question - what's the biggest card I can use in my 6120 Classic?
Some say 2GB Micro SD - some say 4GB Micro SDHC (with new firmware?). Is 8GB possible?
Nice to know that all those people I told not to waste their money on an N95-8gb model and buy the cheaper original won't have long to wait for the 16gb cards. Then I can replace my N95s 4gb one as well.
I usually purchase cards from mobymemory.

They're a slightly cheaper, and provide good service too.

Btw, I own a 6120c since 3 month back. I haven't updated the firmware either, but I have had a 4GB micro SDHC running in it since day 1. I haven't experience any problems thus far, and it was purchased from mobymemory.
Will it work on a E51?
Also, what does the support depend on, FW or HW? If the former, can we expect an update?
I will buy an 8GB card but not for 55. I think I would be happy to pay 35 which means about Feb 2008. I will wait.
I think I'll wait until 16Gb cards come out. I've had a 6Gb card for a while now and I've been OK with that size with about 2Gb left. However I'm now recording longer videos with my phone and downloading video podcasts, so that space I have is slowly getting smaller and smaller.
By the time I need more than 6Gb I hope 16Gb cards will be available.
I don't know what exactly the going rate is yet, I know they've just started to blanket the UK a few weeks ago, but I got my 8GB micro SD with a micro file reader so I can transfer files to my computer for £45 from www.mini-micro-sd.co.uk.
I thought that was a pretty good rate?
Just ordered and received a Sandisk 8GB microsd for 36 inc delivery. Pretty good as they were nearly 50 before christmas
