n95 on 3 & v20 firmware

Am i right in thinking i cannot upgrade the firmware to the new version until 3 have a think about doing it themselves along with thei branding?

yeah... kinda.

You either need to have the v20 firmware released by your service provider

OR

you need to change the product code to generic. PLenty of threads in the forum if you want to take that route. I think 90% of forum members have taken that route.

You will loose all your 3 software, dont do it!

that includes MSN, other MSN clients do not work (depending on your data tarrif).

is MSN the only bit of software a 3 user would want to keep??
I dont have 3 so unaware of the other software it provides thats of use.

I think there is some TV application aswell?

but MSN is a power app, its the only reason my mate bought the phone. Ive upped him to v20, now he has no way of getting on MSN lol.

I'll wait until 3 releases their version of the FW, because I want to keep the 3Mobile-TV app. Without it, I can't watch mobile tv on my phone! So I have no choice. I think it's the only app that I care about from 3. (You see, you're supposed to be able to download the Orb and SlingBox apps from their respective sites so I don't think I need to keep the branding in order to kepp those apps on my 3 phone.)

if you debrand your handset, you loose the 3 certificates that are needed to install the software.

This is the exact problem i had unbranding my mates v12 3 n95 to v20, now cant run anything from 3. Havent tried orb and slingbox, but i imagin it would be exactly the same story...

it sounds like a good idea then... if possible... for someone to get the certification files and host them here to allow 3 users to upgrade to v20 fw.

ATHOUGH, someone would have to be the test subject... 😉
