Any migrators from WM out there?

A few months ago I was struggling with the issue of deciding between a WM device and a S60 one. After waiting for the E90 for a long time, I finally went for the Tytyn 2. I mainly use calendar(i love pocket informant), WEB BROWSING, and of course the phone function. Pocket informant is great, but I have found out that when it comes to actual daily use, WM is so frustrating-screen lock ups, needing to reset, a very slow to react phone function, poor web browsing experience. But I fear , I ll miss out on a beautiful calendar app like pocket informant if i decided to migrate to S60. So my question is, any one who were in a similar position as this and have migrated to s60, what s been ur experience with the different calendar apps out there for S60, for example on a E90?

I switched from WM to an E90 via an E70 a while ago. I'd consider myself a power user on both platforms. I used to use Agenda Fusion on WM, rather than Pocket Informant.

Your choices for a calendar app on Symbian are:
- AquaCalendar
- Papyrus
- HandyCalendar
(You'll notice I don't include the built-in calendar 😉 )

None of the Symbian Calendar apps include Contact handling, and (as far as I'm aware) there aren't any third party Contact apps - which is a shame, as in my opinion the Contacts app is pretty awful on Symbian. I also miss ListPro from WM, but Projekt on Symbian has some of the same features. Other than that, I much prefer the Symbian platform. If you switch, you may also want to consider something like SkyeQuiKey for quick contact and application matching from the Active Standby screen.

My choice before HandyCalendar was available was Papyrus. I now prefer HandyCalendar ... but (in common with all the "Handy" apps) it's relatively expensive, and as yet doesn't allow the option of copying an appointment, which I do quite a lot. The developers do say they plan to add this in a future version though.

I much prefer the Symbian platform as it's not as tied into Microsoft products. If you want tight integration with Outlook, etc., you may prefer to stick with WM. I'm the opposite. I hate Outlook, including its insistance on spreading files and configuration information all over your system and registry, and am so pleased that since I changed jobs I don't have to use it any more 😉

I use Thunderbird at work, and both Thunderbird and gMail for my personal email, so the tight integration with Outlook in WM and the all-pervasive attitude that the device is really only a stop-gap solution for when you're away from your PC (e.g. if there's a conflict, the PC always wins) is a real PITA as far as I'm concerned.

I really want my device to effectively be standalone, but able to integrate with my network and PC as much as **I** want it to. I don't use it for business, so my requirements may be unusual. Some people I know prefer the email solutions available on WM over Symbian's options.

In the end, you pays your money and takes your pick. I can't think of anything that would persuade me to go back to WM, but you need to decide what works for you.

Hey thanks for the reply....I guess, I am sticking with WM for the moment and brave(and try n minimise) the various irritating niggles. If they come out with a super duper Calendar app like PI/AGENDA fusion etc, I will migrate for sure.

I took the plunge a couple of days ago and bought an E90. I have been using WM devices (PPC's as well as Smart[hones) for a couple of years. Apart from being a gadget freak the main reason I bought the Nokia is that it will hopefully be a better phone than the WM devices Ihave had. Especially the WM6 Pro devices are clumsy phones in my opinion and I agree with you the phone function is very slow to react. The WM Smartphones are better in this respect but the call and connection quality is poor.
I have been using Pocket Informant and Agenda One on the WM devices and Papyrus and Handy Calendar are no match for these. I think that is the biggest drawback of the Symbian device. All other applicatiosn I use are pretty much covered.
One must have application is SkyeQuiKey, it makes using the E90 a lot faster and efficient.
There is probably not a perfect device out there so the only wat to know whether you can live with a Symbian device is to try one out. Perhaps start with a cheap E61i?
