Hello, I'm new to this forum and I've browsed around.. you guys really know your stuff...!! 😊
So here's my problem.. I just received my N95.. it's missing options from the main menu (i.e., no Tools.. Display options are missing 'links'.. camera doesnt zoom in/out)
I've tried using Nokia PC Suite.. yes the newest one from Nokia website... also thought maybe I need to upgrade firmware so I did the NSU thing... both the PC Suite and the NSU cannot detect the phone... PC Suite can detect it via BT but then says its not compatible.. NSU cant find it at all!! even via USB connection...
Any ideas people?! really appreciate it.. I've anticipated this phone for a while and finally bought one... (yes, Ebay).. I've contacted the seller but who knows... some of them are shady and maybe I got a bad deal.. regardless if possible to diagnose and repair... that'll be my preference...
Thanks :con?:con?:con?
Hi aKira13
It sounds like who ever you bought the phone from has obviously played with it first and sounds like they have mucked it up, but don't worry this is hope fully easily resolved.
First thing i would advise is to return the phone to how it left the Factory this is very easy to do just turn the phone on and type *#7370#.
After this you will have to set it up with your location the correct date and time
then connect the phone to the PC Suite and it should now work.
After you have done this you can tell us if it works or not, then press *#0000# and report what is says in a post here and someone will tell you if you have the latest Firmware or not it should be V20.
Hope that helps and solves your current problems but it's a good starting point.

If the above info doesn't work, then it could be possible (hopefully not) that you got a fake N95. Who did you buy it from on eBay and do you still have the link?
thanks for the help.. but i typed in *#7370# with and without SIM and the phone was unresponsive...
I had also tried to do the *#0000# thing before too... to find out the product code and same thing.. I know that it should react right after the 'code' is entered and you shouldn't need to push Send or anything else...
did I get a dummy?!?
and yes I still have the link... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160177277992 ... i checked the seller their feedback seemed pretty kosher and they were very responsive to questions (but then again I guess you would if you were ripping someone off right..?!!)
anything else I can try guys? I paid through MoneyBookers.. so I guess I might have to start a dispute process somehow... this sucks...
If the N95 you got matches exactly the one in the photos then it looks like a real one (click here to see a common fake). It's a bit suspect that this fellah said right on his auction that there were no refunds and no returns. I know some people do that genuinely but it's strange especially when your phone isn't working the way it should.
There's something else fishy about this fellah too. Check his feedback and you'll see that he exclusively sells N95s and nothing else. He also sells "Black" edition N95s which're "still sealed in original unopened boxes" which come with 4Gb memory cards. Nokia, afaik, never released an official black N95-1, so the only way to get one is to change the fascia yourself (therefore invalidating the warranty/guarantee). My question is... how can it still be in it's original and unopened box if this is the case?
Someone please put me wrong, cos I'm probably making aKira13 very nervous right now... :afraid:
the keys don't really look that bad.. but indeed the Nokia branding looked off as soon as I took it out of the packaging... I think I'm going to go ahead and try to get my money back... but if anyone else has any ideas please share... in the meanwhile... *shrug*
I took a look at the seller and youre right zxon, he does look pretty dodgy. For the black edition n95, its stated that it doesnt have wifi or gps. Wtf??? And if you look at the screen shots of the black version, the one where the music player buttons are exposed, there are 2 things wrong with that picture:
1. The music player is labeled as audio player
2. The font is the wrong way round by right the phone should be in landscape mode, which you can see in the orientation of the icons. But the word audio player is shown in potrait mode. Seriously weird.
Ok.. upon closer inspection, I have noticed more things wrong with that picture:
3. If you look closely near the earpiece of the phone, you can see the word Nokia N95 sprayed over in black. Looks like an amateur paint job.
4. The left and right softkeys should display options and exit, not ok and back.
I managed to copy the picture from the website, as per attached. On that ebay page, he wishes everyone mary christmas. Im not paying him out, but I per say wouldnt buy a phone from someone that cant tell the difference between mary and merry.
Sorry akira, but it does not look good on your side. Since a basic function like *#7370# doesnt work, the best thing to do is to try return the phone and get your money back.. as soon as possible.

I agree, and don't buy into the "no refunds and no returns" policy this fellah has. Clearly it's because he's selling dodgy merchandise. It's a clear case of false advertising.
Hi aKira13,
Sorry none of my suggestions worked and i have to agree it doesn't look good, i hope you paid via Credit Card to Moneybookers as that may be your best recourse. But i would defiantly raise a compliant with E-Bay but it's not looking great.
Marc
if you paid using PayPal then you should be able to get your money back. doesn't look good, if you report him, he might get banned from selling again.
Hi All thanks for the input... probably should of consulted you in advance.. but what can i do.. it's already bought and in my hands.. extremely disappointed to say the least.. so I messaged the seller and this is what they've said
"That phone yes exactly its OEM phone, and between OEM and classic there is differences.
Original equipment manufacturer, or OEM, is a term that refers to containment-based re-branding, namely where one company uses a component of another company within its product, OEM refers to the company that originally manufactured the product.product will differ from its retail version in price, warranty, parts, instructions"
Can anyone validate this comment??? Its definitely not the same phone that was pictured in my auction.. the Nokia N95 branding looked legit on it... cant speak for his/her other auctions... but even before i took it out of the box i knew something was wrong....
I also started a dispute through eBay but havent heard anything from them yet... and I contacted MoneyBookers.. yes I did pay through my credit card.. they said that they are unable to reimburse me the funds but will contact the seller for more information... worse comes to worse... dispute the charge with the credit card company and hopefully get my money back...
Definitely sort it out with the credit card co. ASAP ! Its a fake and thats fraud !
s.
well yeah, this sucks. Unfortunately, I think he's played you though. He clearly states in the ad that its OEM and doesnt really tell you ANYTHING about that particular phone... so I think hes just playing on the unsuspecting and trusting...
Definately report to Ebay, but I think the any of the money people will try their hardest to get out of paying you the money back in this situation...
I hope Im completely wrong and you get alll your cash back and this guy gets what he deserves.

Load of balls tbh. Nokia dont do 'OEM' versions that are cut down. And basic nokia functions dont work, such as the reset code.
Besides, if it was OEM it wouldnt come in the bloody box.
He has sold you a copy phone. Tell him you have contacted nokia and they have confirmed its fake. And you will press on with the dispute and also report him to both nokia and ebay for selling fakes branded as nokias if he doesnt pay up. And also the relevant trade authorities, make it clear they will start an investigation into where these increasingly closer copies of nokias flagship phone are coming from. Counterfit items are getting cracked down on.
I dont think you will get a full refund tbh. In fact I doubt you will get anything at all :frown:
Thinking about it, can you take any pics of the nokia manual you got with it (or supposed to get with it)?
Hi all,
I agree the guy is a crook and a rip off merchant complain to E-Bay and who ever else you can he is selling counterfeit goods and passing them off as the real thing OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer and is something i have only heard of for Software that comes with a Computer. IMO he is just trying to blind you with BS there is no way Nokia would allow such a thing to happen and damage their products reputation. Just demand your money back from all you can and good luck with that.
Marc
if you paid using your Credit card or paypal you should get your money back. as long as they prove it's a fake
Hi Bartman et al.. i sent a response back to the seller.. asking for $$ back + shipping address to fairly send back the phone... hopefully other people will be smarter... credit card companies in Canada arent as forgiving you need to do all the legwork before they will step in... so this is my first step... maybe the seller will be reasonable.. *shrug* who knows... but if not then yes.. I'll have to get nasty.. 😎
thanks for all your help... any ideas where i can get a legit one w/o breaking the bank...?? last i checked they were still selling for 500USD +.. is this the going price still??
Thanks again everyone .... (maybe i should just stick to my N80..?!?)
