The activity monitor is now available to download from Nokia Research Center. IT uses the accelerometer to create a pedometer. It also then produces graphs and a diary of activity over time. Look ace!
Nokia Activity Monitor now available!
I've had that page in my browser favourites for ages, and on the one day I don't look ...
Thanks for the heads up. I'll enjoy using this, as I monitor my sedantary life style (great office job!) Currently 5kCal, 0.009km, 119 steps and 15mins. Must get out at lunch today!
Thanks for pinpointing, but when I try to install I get an "Update error"...
..am I the only one experiencing this? Am I doing something wrong?
I have 'Sports Tracker' v1.49. Does this replace that or is it in-addition-to?
As far as I understand Sports tracker is more for tracking sports (that seems obvious when you say it but you know what I mean) while this is more of a general use application. I'd use sports tracker to monitor running/training wheras this is more designed to run all the time and monitor your day to day excercise.

Hi Joran,
nope, you are not, same here. EURO2 N95 8GB, FW 11. I contacted Ole about it 😊

Me 2 -> Update Error
Works for me on my N95 8GB.
The activity monitor and the sports tracker don't work together on the phone....u'll have to uninstall sports tracker to install the activity monitor and vice versa
the sports tracker does have a pedometer now tho... if your that interested 😉

That explains it. I installed the activity monitor, which seems to be OK alongside sports tracker 1.49, but when I tried to install sports tracker 1.64 I got an error. Maybe both fighting over the accelerometer?

Yet RotateMe and the Activity Monitor can happily share the accelerometer.
We now know why the installation of the Activity Monitor sometimes fails. Under some circumstances there is a conflict between the Sports Tracker and the Activity Monitor. It is most unfortunate we didn't pick this up before we published the Activity Monitor. The problem will be solved with the release of Sports Tracker v.1.66 which should be out in week 51 (so 7-10 days after this posting). Until then, we cannot guarantee that you can install both the Sports Tracker and the Activity Monitor on the same device.

Unfortunate yes, as I would have thought it would have been tested?! Do you know the specifics of the confilct? 😉
Glad to hear the issue is acknowledged tho and soon to be fixed. :icon14:
Just for feedback, I installed the activity monitor yesterday, on my N82, then later installed sports tracker 1.46, which I later updated to sports tracker 1.64 all so far seems to be working well.
I hadn't not installed sports tracker til yesterday, as I don't really need the features it offers, I just wanted to try out the export to Google Earth feature. 😊
We have released version 0.11 which should solve the problems with installation of the Activity Monitor and any version of the Sports Tracker on the same device. We also officially confirm that the Activity Monitor runs on the N82 as well as the N95.
I have been most pleasantly surprised by how tolerant people have been after finding out they are not able to install the Activity Monitor. I appologise for the trouble and I hope we don't have to put you through that experience again!

Is there a way to reset the step counter every day. It seems to store the activity on the caldendar on the day it started so if you start it on Monday and leave it running all week, all that activity goes into the Monday. At the moment I am manually stopping and starting it each day but that's a pain and I'm bound to forget one day.

Several users have mentioned that it is unnecessary to have to start and stop the application every day. Worse, you cannot see the statistics without stopping it. We have probably been too focused on the power consumption (and fortunately too pessimistic it seems). We were much more worried about the battery dying during the day, taking down everything else in the phone with it, than about the user's convenience. Perhaps it would be a good idea to implement some sort of background mode, including an automated timer, which can be used by people who wants the Activity Monitor on all the time.

Yes, I want to be able to leave this running and for it to log my activity so that I can view what was done each day. I also want to be able to look at this information while the step counter continues to run.
Failing that, just have some logic so that if you stop and start it on the same day it will carry on from where it left off instead of resetting to 0

While this may be good in some instances, there is an argument for individual as well as cumulative. For example, redoing a particular exercise and wanting to compare results from earlier in the day. If it didn't have an option to reset, you wouldn't be able to compare, being stuck with a cumulative figure.
Does the Sports Tracker need data connection to function? Would I get charged if I use it on my no-data tariff, as the GPRS data icon indicated it was connected when I launched it.
Im guessing that might be the GPS, using AGPS to get a lock. Its only a tiny amount of data.

Actually I just realised it does this already. My phone crashed earlier and when I restarted the activity monitor it reset to zero but if I press down to get today's totals it is the total of before it crashed plus what i've done since then
