It's Insight number 4, masquerading as AAS podcast 51, in which Rafe, Ewan and I discuss Nokia's 'Comes with Music' initiative and then move on to the thorny subject of firmware upgrades - should these be done as they are at the moment, in discrete steps with inconvenience for the user, or could they be implemented Windows-style, with a continuous series of patches?
Read on in the full article.
Nokia really needs to change the firmware update system. An incremental update system that gets pushed to our devices over-the-air would be so much better and ease the hassle of the current firmware update system (and allow us with Mac's to update).
Nice podcast (lite)
Comes with Music: The buzz talk is greatly about the fact that you get a years free downloads of Universal (at the moment) music, then possibly buy a new handset or switch to the paid model. How do you think the massively increasing change towards 18 months contracts will effect this announcement for UK users? Wouldnt an 18 month contracter be forced to the paid model should they wish to continue the use of Nokia Music? So.. a score for Nokia there then? 😉
Ovi: yeah.. ovvi not ohvy! 😉
Firmware updates: Guys, I agree with your comments 😊 I have found that using any backups in new firmware creates more issues than its worth. So to that end, everything is reinstalled and resync'd. Its a few hours process in an evening. It can't be that difficult to hold the access points / apps etc details can it?
At this point, it is a process for more top end users to do, yeah. A lot of Nokia users dont know what 'firmware' is, so probably best to not let them change things whilst the methods for updating are as they are at the moment. (though not AAS readers!) 😉 They just need 'appletizing' 😉
