Milestones passing and arriving on the Smartphones Show. It passed the half a million viewings mark a few weeks ago, and is approaching its own half century, with Show 49 going live today, in the last show of 2007. This programme has a look at some smartphone bargains, an overview of the HTC Touch and Touch Dual, plus a review of all the add-on keyboard utilities, a demo of using a S60 smartphone as a wireless modem for your laptop and a brief look ahead to N-Gage.

Kind of surprised you have only just discovered the ability to use a Smartphone as a bluetooth modem ?
By the way, any idea if this will work with a Nokia N810. I've now decided to pass on the E90 and so looking at an N95/N82 + a N810.
Thanks,
Zuber
Zuber, yes, you can use the N810 and N800 tablets with your phone as the modem. I've done this a lot as part of my work for the Internet Tablet School.
Every Bluetooth Nokia I've tried works with the tablets (both S60 and S40), and even non-Nokia phones should work as long as they support the correct Bluetooth profiles.
For connecting PCs, you can use almost any phone as a modem, it doesn't have to be smart at all, because all the phone does is act as a simple modem. Even cheap non-Bluetooth models will work, as long as they have a data cable port.
Really interesting show Steve and congrats on the 500,000 viewers.
I was just wondering why you felt the slide on the new Touch was a reliability issue? I haven't heard of a dodgy slide since the (admittedly dire) XDAIIs. To my knowledge, the Wizard, Hermes and Kaiser have all been 100% reliable. I have a 2 year old Wizard that's been in use every day and there are no problems. Come to think of it, I have a Nokia N7650 that's about 60 (ish) years old and the slide is still fine.
Are there still models having problems that I haven't heard about?
