A couple of N95-1 questions

Ok,I recently got a N95-1(v.10.0.018 FW).I was wondering if anyone has a solid answer as to if the BL-6F will work in the N95-1.I know that it will fit in the battery slot. But is it safe to use?I looked around but couldn't find a definite answer. Also I know that the battery cover won't fit unless you leave it off and use a crystal case(which I'm going to do).Secondly,I have a N95-1 plum product code 0548763.Would I have to change the product code to the Euro 1-sand or the Euro 1-plum for the v.20 FW update.I would guess plum but then again it might not even make a difference.Lastly, what is the file type I would download for third party applications.I'm coming from a WM 6 device which used .cab files.I was curious of the file type the Symbian uses.I'm sorry if these are really dumb questions that have been answered many times.Like I said, when it comes to Symbian OS I'm not very educated. But I will say that so far WM can't even compare!IMO.And I'm 100% satisfied with my decision to get a N95!Also,if it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't have gotten one!I tried some other forums but kept coming back to this.So thanks for all the help as well.

Can't give you a definitive answer about the battery, since probably only NOKIA will now if it's safe from a technical point of view.

One thing is for sure - YOU NEED TO DEBRAND !!! 😊

Euro-1 Plum or Sand should be the same, so I would use Plum.

After the new FW20 upgrade you may even not need the better battery.

Symbian installers are .sis or .sisx files

Congratulations on your new N95 - it's a great phone, especially with the latest firmware.

Thanks for the quick reply Peter321.Yeah,I'm definitely debranding my N95!I really want to do the FW update but my computer is down at the moment. And that sucks!!lol. Also, good to know the file types(for downloading purposes). Is the battery life really that much better? If so that would be a major improvement!Yeah I'm unnaturally in love with my N95!lol.It's so much better than the Sprint Touch that I had before it!By leaps and bounds!Oh,and I kinda feel like a dumb@ss asking this next question but it's driving me insane. How do I get to the screen that tells you the amount of RAM that you have?I know! It's a lame question but I can't find it anywhere.:/ TIA

I think you'll be needing some software like Device Status installed to find out

I couldn't think of any reason the BL-6F wouldn't be safe to use - it's a 3.7V battery like the BL-5F, it just has more capacity. It just doesn't fit very well.

I agree.

For software you want to look for software for Symbian Series 60 Version 3 (S60v3), most version 2 stuff will not work.

Some software is in Java format with .jar/.jad extensions.

So is it better to download the .sis,.sisx,or s60v3 files instead?Being that they are the correct file type. Also, where would I find the device status download file? Can anyone recommend any good download sites?I'm very nervous about putting any 3 party apps on my new toy!lol.I can't wait to do the FW update! If my roommate would get his damn computer up and running!lol.Anyways, thanks for all the help.

Your best place to start is the Nokia N-Series website:

http://www.nseries.com

and go to Applications. You can select just freeware.

Both S60v2 and S60v3 programs can come in .sis or .jar formats. You need to look at the description from where you download it to see which version of Symbian the program is designed for.

Another good source is Nokia Beta labs:
