Quick way to delete Contacts DB?

3 replies · 4,482 views · Started 12 December 2007

Admittedly I have a large Contacts DB but when I use the 'mark all and delete' method, the E90 takes around 3-4 hours to delete all 580 Contacts. Most of them have Notes attached, so it is quite big, I guess.

Is there a quick way by using one of the 3rd Party file managers to get to the DB and just delete it?

Hello,

Yes, first backup the phone memory to the pc with pc suite, then reset your phone to factory settings (takes only 45 sec), then restore your data to the phone exept the contacts database.

Cheers,

Nice example of lateral thinking there. It should be pointed out though that the Backup system on S60 is everything but reliable.

The backup process itself often hangs half-way trough and it often takes several attempts before getting it to complete successfully.

The restore process isn't any better. I have found that on both my E61 and my E90, calendar entries, notes, settings, SMSs and emails were usually restored fine. But third party application are only restored on a random basis. A few are restored fine, a few seem to have been restored but won't launch and most of them just aren't restored at all. Be prepared to spend the most part of a day re-installing, re-registering, re-reconfiguring and re-customizing everything if you go down this route.

i still have no idea why some things on the nokia e90 are super fast, and others are slow!

using the phone browser from my windows file explorer, i can see contacts, copy them out, paste them back in. But even on a usb2 computer, the data is only bytes per contact, yet i can copy a 10mb MP3 quicker than say 40 contacts...

it must be something to do with the field mapping, and the process on the phone to import them etc. Horendously slow though.

I guess with every communicator there will be a dissapointment, just so that you buy the next one... OMG, their marketing madness is working, i already want the next communicator lol...
