Hi,
Recently got my N95 8gb and I've noticed a couple of oddities.
I've changed to product code and flashed the firmware from
vodafone to the latest unbranded version.
Anyhoo, when I use nokia movie manager to convert a large
avi it does it and loads it onto the phone, but when I try to view
the movie it either hangs the phone, goes back to the menu or
reboots.
Also, when I plugged the headphones in this morning and told it
i'd plugged them in the phone rebooted.
Are these problems others are having or do I have a duff phone?
Thanks,
Martin.
There's another thread I created about Video Centre crashing when there is a large movie in the "My Video" folder.
Seems to work for smaller files, I tried upto 330MB and it works fine. 540MB movie crashes Video Centre and returns you back to the menu. I think it's the problem with how Video Centre refreshes it Movie list. Sometimes you can finally get it to work if you keep trying to play the movie, so every time it crashes just go back in and attempt to play that movie.
If you go to the movie direct from file manager and play it, then it should play all ok. Alternatively, put the movie in some other customer folder and view it from there, this will leave Video Centre ok to view smaller files. It's annoying, but there is a bug there.
My phone has rebooted a few times, when I unplug the USB cable when it was connected via Mass Storage.
I don't think my phone has ever rebooted due to plugging in the headphones.

This one goes on me, then. Mine has, but only ince. Overall everything is fine with mine.
I assume you can play large file movies on your video centre? Or is this something you never tried?

I fear I never tried it - well, with Spiderman, but as the key is gone after the firmware upgrade...

Somebody else that just got the N95 8GB, and now also has the problem with Video Centre.
So pretty sure to say that it definately is a bug and not anything wrong with the phone 😊
i have had mine about a month now and never had it reeboot playing vids from the video centre i often put full films on and then watch them in my local it has been fine
Can you tell me the version of the firmware you have? Was it locked to vodafone?
Also, how big was the file for the movie? how did you transfer it to the phone and what settings did you use for the conversion of the movie.
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get to the bottom of this issue.
Thanks

You askin me? If so...
There may have been an issue with the movie file that got created. It was a 700mb avi but using Nokia Movie tool that came with the phone it created a 111mb mp4 file that caused the phone to hang. I used the same package to convert a 350mb file and this created a 254mb mp4 that plays fine.
I used the movie package to transfer the file to the phone too. Default settings.
I'm using firmware 11.0.026, generic version which I flashed to the
phone by first changing my product code. The phone is sim locked to vodafone.
Yes I was asking you. Sorry didnt make it clear 😊
Thanks.. now I see why you don't have an issue, small files work fine. It's the large files that it has problems with. So if I convert to MP4 (high quality) it ends up about the same size as the original AVI, thats when the problems start occuring.
It seems anything over 400 or 500 MB causes this issue.
Thanks for your help anyway.
this is mine
device softwsre v 10.0.021
locked to vodafone
average film when converted around 650mb
settings can depend see below

Damn, sorry , I was referring to Martin-f, was looking at the user ids.
so, it does work for some ppl then.
I really dont understand. One thing I haven't done was trying converting using Nokia Video Manager, I give that a go.
Have a look at the end of this similar post of mine on n95user site - the problem is not having a image link for video centre to lock on to - all explained on post - if it helps it might be worth dropping `disturbed racing` a thanks on n95user forum
