Bug? Pressing 9 when composing text exits app

9 replies · 3,668 views · Started 13 December 2007

Got this weird thing going on when writing a text.

If I press the 9 key (for W,X,Y or Z) the text exits and goes to draft folder.

I can't type the number 9 when entering a number.

Pressing 9 at any time goes back to the standby screen...

Rebooting the phone doesn't solve it either... very bloody odd.

Anyone come across this before?

I'm running unbranded v20, but that's been installed since it came out and this has only just started...

Cheers,
Dave

sounds like the wires for the 9 button and RED button are shorting... has it got damp recently or been dropped?

dont know what to suggest really, take back cover off, see if theres any obvious damage. Maybe try blowing on the keyboard pcb that you can see from the side. (Under the Camera button), or use a vaccum on it and suck out any thing thats in there.

Other than that, back to a nokia service center, or complete dissasembly of the phone and check all cables

Nope, not damp or dropped. that's bloody irritating that is...

Any suggestions as to anything non-invasive i can try before i have to deal with t-mobile customer disservices

This is not a problem for me. Perhaps something went wrong when updating FW. Try flashing it again...

Is it only in text editor that it's exiting? How about if you're in the gallery, does pressing 9 exit it too? If so, then as mentioned it could be the keypad matrix playing up.

If not though, then i reckon it's a software bug, as pressing 9 on any screen should bring you back to the main menu if it's a hardware bug.

As recommended, i'd take it to a nokia service centre, and just avoid all texts which use w x y or z 😃 (or the number 9)

Nine, it's the new exit. What does your usual exit button do by the way? 😊

Briefly flashes a 9 on the screen and returns to the standby screen.

And it happens from everywhere.

I is sad now, since it sounds like the keyboard is buggered...

:frown:

If the 9 key exits and the red key flashes up a 9, it certainly sounds like there's some cross-talk going on between the keys.. rather strange that it's just those two though, they aren't located physically that close (though on the same side of the phone, at least). Maybe the wires involved do run close to each other.

😮

according to tmobile, after being tested by nokia, it's a software fault.

my n95 is on its way back to me... apparently fixed...

did anybody else come across this - it seems unlikely that a software fault could be so unreported?
