three weeks so id rather try to fix the prob quicker there are only a couple of files missing

thanks in advance

chris

Thanks for the answer but no not all the
instalation files are not on the site nor on the cd why I dont know but nokia confirm that either i must take the phone in or reload from a complete backup to mem card.

I have back ups on the computeur but they dont work (normal pcsuite is not quite au point yet) data files are restored correctly but system files not

.......so i need a to card backup to restore those system files

chris

Hmmm... What firmware do you have?
I have a clean backup copy for 4.13...
If you don't know how to check it just press *#0000#... and let me know ok?

I have v 3.54 but I dont think the version matters for the files i need

Anyway cant mess the machine up more than it is now

Chris

Out of interest what files do you need, because the MMC only comes with the software from All_nokia_data.sis or whatever the MMC one is called, installed on it. I'm kind of lost as to what you are after.

Thanks for the intrest switchblade

I was hoping not to have to type all this out but such is life
I bought the nokia 9210 about 5 months ago having already 9110 (Three in fact) that I use for faxing and moveing data around the web
They work fine but I spent about a year getting them stabalised and doing what I wanted them to so when I got the 9210
I decided that it would be better to try out the 9210 in all sorts of conditions before moveing my livlyhood over onto it
So I set it up to do the basic faxing ; email , and data moveing that my job entails
All that worked fine after a few adjustments and reinstalls
Then stupidly I said to myself its a shame to use that machine just for that when it can do other things so over the Christmas holidays I loaded just about every
Programme thats on the webthat I thought I would use for the 9210
Theres good and bad out there
theres useful to me and not useful
theres stuff that change your world like book readers (I wonder how I travelled before and I spend most of my time travelling)
theres stuff I wonder what you do with

anyway to cut long short

Install try out uninstall about 80 programmes I started to have problems so I reinstalled all the nokia stuff then the programmes I wanted to keep
All was well again except I never could get more than 28000 C mem free when I had 32000 before but all ran well

Then France Telecom (orange now I think) contacted me and offered a trial of their GPRS 3 months for free but beta test conditions
I jumped at the chance
After lots of messing around with their phone tech people we finally got the modem to talk to the nok or vica versa anyway
Then had to config nok apps to talk gprs or something after lots of combination of configs and blind trys it suddenly worked
Great internet on the 9210 at useable speeds

That latsted 20 minuets

Then screen blank
Reboot screen blank
Take out mem card replace with original
Reboot screen blank
I reboots F reboots all to no avail
Etc etc for two days

So I hooked up to the pc and did a format c and reinstalled from cd data

Certain apps like fax and sms dont have their config panels internet wont keep its config wap disappears sometimes the computeur cant find the nokia or vv
Models appear and dissaper ; memory occupation grows at an alarming rate
SoI tried to restore from computeur backups alas it will only restore the last save that of the gprs config which when reinstalled after about two seconds goes onto blank screen .

I have since retried all the installs cd nokia downloads etc in all combinations (mem card , computeur )

I then rung the care line they told me that when you format a c drive you can wipe out files that are not rebuilt from rom nor are found on the cd nor on the site
That the only two ways to get them is to either hand in my nokia for an upgrade or reinstall from a backup that was made to memcard

So there you have nearly all the tale

I am quite happy to try out any version it cant break the nokia and could get me up and running over the weekend

Hmm.... I'm absolutely sure that your 9210 wont work with my files... and you have to take it to a Nokia support center to flash the memory for you...
If you really insist that much I can send you the clean backup files I have...!

Coolmatter

Hmmm, Well after a format and install of the default files from the CD I didn't have that trouble, so I'm guessing there may be a problem internally in the 9210. I'd recommend you upgrade your firmware to 4.13 before starting again as that seems a lot more stable than the 3.52 you are running. I have formatted and installed a number of times and never encountered those problems.

Well thanks to all

I will just take it in and put my project back a week or two and when it comes back wont forget to back up to a mem card

bye

I can see Nokia careline in France is also as stupid as in holland!

" ... you can wipe out files that are not rebuilt from rom nor are found on the cd nor on the site ..."

I (as well as many others) are intrested in knowing what these files are. Anyone can shed some lingt on this?

Good question the same as i asked the nokia careline (should that be the couldnt carelessline ?) answer was sys config files ! (as if one doubted)

Has anyone had the time and patence to list all the files, thier place (CDOr Z)and there size for an out the box install ?

that is the first thing I am going to do after I get my nok back and have backed up to memcard.

Q is there a site that allreadsy has this info or is axed more towards the tech side
of nokias ?

Chris

Config files, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. The programs will generate these and edit them after re-installation. Or at least mine and many others have done. I think your problems sound a little more serious than just congif files. Have you tried formatting and re-installing again since the first format? Just in case it works...

You can savely throw that piece of information of Nokia's careline into the trashbin because it is not true. I got firmware 4.13 installed, but because I was in a hurry they did not install the new soft. So I got a 4.13 firmware and 3.54 C and D. I completely wiped C and D and installed everything from the 4.13 files Nokia has on its site. No problem, system functioning fine. All the important stuff is on the rom-drive and the rest is either created by the system or in the *all.sis files.

I have been doing nothing but that for a week now.....

have tried evry imaginable combination
of formatting reinstalling in all the langueges possible etc and all the orders I could imagine

tomorrow I ll do the 10 hrs round trip to nokia SAV ..........
