can't believe this - i downloaded it and followed instructions on signing certs etc and thought no way will it work, but installed 1st time and managed to sign cert and all works great!

hi baconroll where did you get your certificate and are you using mobilesigner?

I really think this thread should be cleared up. It's just yet another 'how do I sign' thread and should be just about rotateme.

Hi - my original post was about RotateMe. I was sharing with other users how pleased I was after getting it to work. Someone asked me a question about how I signed it and I responded to them as I was trying to be helpful.

It's ok, I'm not having a go at anybody, just making the suggestion that signing stuff go into a separate thread to a) keep this one on topic and b) make it easier for people who want signing info to find it

not a problem fella. 😊 Hence why I have left your post there as it was the first one on the issue....

3shirts was mostly making the observation that the following 3 pages were all 'signing' posts..

eithr way, its all tidy now...

thank you both - I have to say that without your help and this forum, I would never have realised the full potential of my N95. Great job!

cracking, just signed RotateMe, and it's running away. 😊

as i am a n00b 😊 at this, what does this signing business allow me to do now. what can i can't i sign?

Self-signing allows you to run programs which used privileged APIs (phone features that Symbian have decided that you might not want untrusted programs to use), but which have not been checked out and signed by Symbian. Since getting Symbian to sign things both costs money and can take quite a long time, a number of freeware programs are released in an unsigned format, and you have to sign them yourself to make them run.

Self-signing is supposed to be a tool for developers to sign their own applications with for testing, but I believe that Symbian know about and tolerate private use, in a sort of 'don't ask, don't tell' way.

if anyone wants beta 5 signed (ONLY BETA 5 ... no other beta) then PM me.

hey nudda,
What all I need to pm you for getting the signed rotateme beta 5........
thanks............

Nowthen,

Am struggling with downloading my cert from Symbian signed, did all as per this link up to 9) http://www.gosymbian.com/SSIS_download.html and then it only downloads a web page rather than a .cer file which is a massive long piece of txt when I open it up, but not a file.

Any advice, much appreciated!
