Hi Has anybody got any good dvd/video converters that actually convert the whole dvd to the phone, rather than sepaerate vts files ? ie id like to watch all the way through !! Lol, and what do you use? and hopefully dvd watchable quality on the phone with correct settings etc to encode for above..

well, there is always slysofts clonedvd mobile... have a look at www.slysoft.com . It is a little expensive, though but kind of a one shot solution.
Many people here like 'Super' a lot, it is a great and free encoder ( www.erightsoft.com ), but you still need something to rip the dvd...
I am personally also looking for a simple solution, have not found one so far.

Hi and yes i will try that, i actually ue nokia video converter at the moment, it does rip the dvds straight into mp4 and not bad quality, but as with you im also awaiting a good quality dvd to mobile that is actually dvd quality..
Sure there is something out there..

As I have said before (for the benefit of people who search :rolleyes😊 DVDDecrypter is best for ripping (and free) and Super for converting. Super's website is a bit of a pain but it's designed to generate several clicks and thus revenue from advertising. That direct link will stop working soon as they move the installer around to avoid direct linking (which bypasses their revenue generation).
It's kind of annoying but I see why they do it and it is a great program so I don't mind a few minutes of hunting to find it!

I'm sure I've said it before too, but for a one stop, easy option, AnyDVD with CloneDVDmobile has to be the easiest method of ripping and converting from DVD to mobile in one operation. But you have to pay 😊 Having used the free options, I chose to pay, and was glad of it.

Depends on what you mean by quality. The final video quality is no different, it's more about the journey to that point! Super is a general purpose converter so need more fiddling to get the settings right for your phone. Mind you, once you do, you can save the settings to a profile and reuse them evertime.
Get handbrake if you have a mac, it's dead fast and easy. Does the whole conversion in one go.
If not, then I too recommend Super for the pc, i've used it and it works good.

CloneDVD mobile + AnyDVD: put DVD in drive, press button, wait short time (it's quick), output file ready to transfer to N95.
Super: Put DVD in Drive, run a program to rip files from DVD into format suitable for conversion. Run Super to convert ripped files into format for transfer to N95.
Oh, and with Clone, you can now copy BlueRay films as well....(though obviously the output quality won't be the same 😉 )

Just thought id mention that with clone DVD the audio is slightly out with the video. However the quality of video is excellent and ease of use superb

Again. Don't have a problem. Volume is loud enough for me. Certainly too loud for comfort with headphones at full volume. Cant give settings as currently on my N95.

Have you guys ever tried the Winmenc? I've been using it for video converting with great quality. It supports DVD as well. I can use it to convert the video to X264 quality.

I'm not sure if this helps but I use xvid4PSP and it's a great converter. I'm sure that it can convert for cell phones because it has a specific iPhone mode.

The settings I use to convert to N95 are:
Output video = H.264/AVC
Output audio = AAC
Video scale size = 320:240
Aspect= 4:3
Frame/Sec = 25
Bitrate = 384
Hi Quality, Stretch It, 48k Audio
Sampling Freq = 44100
Channels = 2
Bitrate = 64
That is for playback on the N95 with no third party players. Gives good quality and reasonable file size.
If I want to output it to TV I usually go for avi (the Super defaults) and select 'all divx players' then use the symbian divx client.
What I usually do is use a video editing program, say like Adobe Premier or powerdirector and crop the movie or raise the volume of the file. Then I use Super with output settings as MP4, none of that h.264 stuff. I keep the FPS the same as the original file, so if it's a dvd movie, i keep it 29.97FPS.
If you have DVD shrink, you can author the disk and have DVD shrink save just the movie file to your hard drive, that way you don't have all the previews and other crap that would make the movie a larger size. You can also save just the 2channel audio track which will also make the size smaller to save, just unclick all the 5ch tracks and the other language tracks other than english.
