Recommended automated profile switching app?

Nowthen,

I am wanting my phone to be silent at work and when charging and in general the rest of the time. I am trialing Handy profiles, but think $20 is a bit steep. Are there any free apps that can time profiles and/or change on charging? I think Best profiles is similar in cost, but will trial that after my 14 days Handy is up.

Also if there any way of making the # key turn on silent profile if mine doesnt as standard?

Many thanks :icon14:

I use Handy Profile and I really like that it can change according to gsm cell area as I work lots of different hours. It is also very handy for places like the cinema.
I haven't seen any free alternatives but since I have this and it works so well, I haven't really looked

I use Best Profiles and can say it's very good and will what you're after.

I haven't used Handy Profiles.

EDIT: Best profiles will also change profile according to cell, but I don't use this feature. I work different hours each week as well, but sometimes (often) go the pub near work after work and I want it to ring in there.

Yeah, I use Best Profiles and find it really useful. I'd go for that !

i think Best Profiles leads the pack of all the profiles apps now that they added location based profile switching (it remembers the cell sites and switches profiles accordingly). also they have keyword switching based on your calender appointments. and it will also turn on/off bluetooth, and run any app you set, and there are backlight settings as well. best profiles FTW.

I don't understand how some peeps have reported that this option isn't available on their N95's. I've had versions 11, 12 and 20 on my N95 and for each one of them I could press and hold the # key and it puts the phone into silent mode.

It's even always been available on my N70, a much older phone.

I think it is to do with the network versions of firmware. When my phone was debranded on v12 it worked, then it went to Nokia for repair and came back with the t-mobile v12 firmware (I had changed the prod code back) and it didn't work. I have since debranded for the v20 firmware and it works again.

No idea why they'd disable it though

OMG! 😮 I can possibly understand why some networks would disable VOIP, but to disable such a useful (and simple) feature like that is mind boggling! I guess o2 don't disable them.

Getting back on topic a little though, I couldn't recommend a profile switching app because I have this feature.

Best Profiles can change theme too, according the profile.

There is no free one out.
