TomTom Nightmare, please help....

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a Nokia N95 (from a friend who only had it 3 weeks), which was a huge step up as my last nokia was a 6230. I did have TT6 installed on it but after I updated the firmware to version 20.0.015, then TomTom wouldnt work on it kept saying the Certificate was invalid or something. As i didnt know if the software was genuine i purchased a copy to be on the safe side. Now i am having major problems installing it on the N95. I have spent all day trying with no luck, i have read on other Forums that you have to copy the contents of the supplied Mini SD on to the n95's Micro SD and it should work, not for me, i have downloaded the update from TomTom for the Symbian S60 (relesed in Febuary 07) and still no joy. I am new to all this Smart Phone stuff, please can someone give me an idiots guide to installing, as whatever i do i cant get the App or the File manager to see the TomTom files. I understand that the TomTom wont work with the internal GPS but i have a good Bluetooth device to use instead.

Any help will be very much appreciated, as i can see that some people have had some sucess recently and that there are some very knowlegable people on here..

The mods dont mind but by leaving it on the forum its going to get picked up by spam bots that trawl the net. You will undoubtably get more spam, thats why its suggested you use PMs for that sort of thing, but its up to you, you can always edit the post.

When I bought my cracked copy off eBay 😮 the installtion tip was to change the date and time settings on my phone so the year was 2006 - do the installation ( copy onto SD card, put card in phone and then run the sis file ). This installed it fine, then wnet back and changed the year back to 2007.

Ok, I appreciate the ideas from the revious posts, but i am getting very frustrated now and may endup throwing the phone at something hard.
I did have firmwear version 11 with TomTom in but after i updated to v20tomtom wouldnt work, i got pissed off and formated the card the realised i didnt have the disc for it, so i went out and purchased a proper copy of TomTom Nav 6 and have spent two days trying to install it, i am convinced i am not doing something or doing it in the wrong order, i have read many Forums with people who have had success and i have tried many soloutions so far with out any luck.

Technical info, N95 running Firmwear version 20.0.015
Tom Tom Home Version 1.5.106
I have tried the following,

1. Copying the contents of the Mini SD card to the N95's Micro SD card and looking in the Application Manager and File manager for a .sis file but nothing on the memory card will run or do anything that sugests its installing.

2. Loaded TomTom Home on my computer and linked the N95 in Data transfer mode to the computer via USB, i can get TomTom Home to see the N95 but it wont install anything to the phone.

3. Tried downloading the update for TT6 fron the TT site to my computer and using Nokia Installer to install, it says to continue the instalation on the Phone then says "Update Error".

I may also have tried s couple of other ways round but to be honest i cant remember as i am totaly frustrated with it

I apprecaite its near Christmas, but i would be very please if someone who has installed it successfully can help me with some sort of Step by Step guide as i am totaly cheesed off with it all.

Many thanks for you time,

Mike

UPDATE..

Forgot to mention, Also purchased a new clean Micro SD card with addapter to go in the standard SD card reader to transfer between cards i have an internal crad reader and a USB reader, so i can have both cards in at once and not have to copy between Card and Computer and then computer and card.

As I said before any help would be gladly received as i have run out of ideas and dont know what else to try.

I apprecaite the offer of copies that work (for a small fee) but i really would like to get this one working as i do belive it is down to me and not the Phone or softwear.

Many thanks.

Mike

Problem Solved...... Finaly 3 Days later

After many emails from Scoobydoo (above) and searching on Google i found the last possiblity and it worked.

Problem was after i did my Firmware upgrade and debranding i replaced the storage card with TomTom on (that worked before the Firmware upgrade) back in the phone expecting it to work as before or reinstall itself. Now it must have begun to install the it checked the Certificate and found it to be out of date for some reason. Thinking i had lost it for good i formated the card and that was that. Then after a week or so i thought it may be handy after all so bought a genuine copy from a TomTom dealer. It now seams although it would not install as it should because of the small amount of data that was left after the failed instalation the first time. The new installation was giving a "Update Error" and not installing TomTom when the card was inserted in to the Phone.

Solution is as follow (well worked for me)

Back up the phone memory to the Memory card, and transfer the "Backup" folder to a safe location on your PC along with any pictures, video or music that you want to keep. Then format the card and copy the contents of the sd card that came with the TomTom software ( if yours had a Mini SD card) or install the required files onto the card from the DVD or any downloaded copy you may have. Then with the card out of the phone you have to do a Hard Rest, this will mean lossing any applications you have on the phone, but they can be replaced after the TomTom install. To do a Hard Reset type *#7370# into your phone and enter the security code when asked, if you havent changed the code it is normaly 12345, the phone will then reset and restart.

Place the Micro SD card in the phone and it should start installing as it should because now the phone is as new out of the box and has never seen TomTom before.

Once the instaltion is compleat you have to register and unlock the maps which varies depending on the way you got your copy of TomTom either legal or illegal. you can then reinstall any other applications and tranfer your Backed up data back to the phone then go to Restore in the memory card section in the utilites folder and you are back as you where only with a working copy of TomTom 6.

It took me three days and lots of searching to find this info out as it wasnt in one place on any particular forum.

Hope this helps someone out..

Mike
