I don't think it can be turned off; I've read somewhere that it's intentional to stop you from taking pictures without the knowledge of the subject, though that doesn't really make sense for all sorts of reasons.

At what point did it fail? I downloaded from here, unpacked the zip file and installed it ok. The only odd thing is that the picture is rotated by 90 degrees.
ETA: I found the home page for this utility (and a couple of others) and now have the latest version, 1.03, which fixes the screen orientation problem I had. Get it from http://pachome1.pacific.net.sg/~welic/cCam.html

i have tried that too. still cannot !😡
any other ways ?

Try this..
Deasktop> tools> Personalisations> Tones> scroll down to Warning tones.. then switch off. All the bells and whistles go mute.
Or an easier way is to choose the silent profile.
Works on E90 😊

Thanks, Bill, but that doesn't work on the E51. You also don't have an option to select the capture tone as you do in the Settings for the camera on the E90.

there is actually a better way to use the default camera application that is on the camera and not have the shutter sound.
you need to use hello carbide to 'open' your phone and then run the script that removes the shutter sound.
google for it and you should be able to find the script.
This way you can use the additonal features of the camera as cCam has only the primitive features...
use cCam , try this link:
http://home.pacific.net.sg/~welic/cCam_S60_3rd_v103.sis
it now works with E51 (cert expired solved), I'm not sure about the old firmware (100.xx) but it now works on the updated 200.34.36 ver 😊

Hi frnds
i got a E51,i have tried this solution.
first you have to hack your cell phone through Hellocarbide. You need Xplore software too. you can search how to hack cell phone on google.
After hacking, let the Xplore software open, then open hellocarbide and select menu1 and press 'Yes' option through right menu button. then go to Xplore and it will show hidden files.
then go to Z:/private/10202be9/101F8809.txt
copy this file and save in C:/ , then edit this file like this
0x7 int 0 0 cap_rd=alwayspass cap_wr=alwaysfail
then move it to C:/private/10202be9/101F8809.txt
restart your phone... all done, it only works for silent mode...
I am still searching for all profiles...
regards
Silent killer
----OR----- try this
Thanks to Eddie
Since I didn't find how to turn off camera shutter sound on E51, i did it myself. No ROMPatcher needed, no extra camera applications needed, just a hacked E51 phone and a file browser (I use X-Plore).
Let's begin!
1) Be sure that caps is off before going through this.
2) Go to Z:\resource\apps and find a file Camcorder.r01 (it's for English language, if you use another language in your phone, find a coresponding Camcorder.rXX file)
3) Copy Camcorder.r01 to C:\resource\apps
4) Open the newly created file in hexeditor in x-plore and scroll to line no. 1289
5) Change "Z:" to "C:"
6) Repeat steps 4 & 5 but use lines 12de, 130b and 1338
7) Save the file
8) Copy the files in attached rar to C:\System\Sounds\Digital\
9) Restart your phone
10) Voila... Camera sound is no more!
