Is there such a thing?
If you download software from a site that's pretty shifty, can it damage your phone?

Ok folks heres and interesting one.
Had my E90 (best phone ever) for about 5 months now. All has gone well, with no problems browsithe internetormessagetc...short its worked lika dream.
However today something strange occured.....I was playing a game on it when i noticed it connecting via Edge.....I thought i had pressed a button by mistake so i cancelled it, only to find that a few minutes later it did it again, only this time it appeared to be sending something. Again i cancelled it, alo behold a few minutes later it again.
I checked all my settings etc etc, and couldnt work out what or why it was trying to send. What i did find was that when i checked the log, i had received an SMS from 820202, but when it arrived i didnt get any notification of a new message. I checked the inbox and it isnt showing there. Since this sms came in my phone has tried several times to send something out.
Having spoken to O2 they have blocked the gprs so it doesnt run up any data charges, and are arranging a new handset.
Any one else got any ideas on this???
These are stored as plain text files and so will not cause any problems when viewed using ...
My concern was that soon after the unannounced text came in my phone started to try and send out using Edge connection, which can mount up some hefty dtata bills....Thankfully i noticed it and have informed my network provider.

Yes, right now, just while reading your post! For unknown reason my E90 connected three times to GPRS (I am currently online via Wifi). 12 to 29 seconds, 1 to 2 kbytes sent, 2 to 9 kbytes received. No in or out message in the log. Strange. Will monitor that.
Mine does that too, but its connecting to the MMS access point, and checking for new messages. It does that periodically - it's nothing to worry about.

OK, but my SMS preferences are set to "GSM/UMTS", not "Packet data". And the log says the device has connected three times to packet data instead.

In messaging, open the options menu and go to settings> Multimedia message> Access point in use. Check which access point is set up.
If it's O2 MMS, and the connections shown in log are not to that, then yes, there is a problem.
If it's set to O2 WAP GPRS and that is what is in the log, then it's a dodgy setting and is a quick fix.
Hope this helps!

Actually, the access point for multimedia messages is set to "undefined". However, the phenomenon didn't happen again since the first alert. By the way, my system has recently become quite unstable (some files mysteriously disappear from time to time), probably due to a buggy app, but I have no idea of which one (I suspect the latest Nokia Maps update, still under investigation). Actively looking for a list of known buggy S60 software. Not found so far.
