I finally got myself a 64mb MMC. I've already moved the sis-files to D/system/install (exept install.log) and now I wonder is there something else in the system I could move. I understood that if you move Calendar and Contacts -files, you may end up with trouble. All my office files, pics etc go of course to D by default. Any suggestions?
What can I move to D?
I've created my calendar in d:...and I find it better because it frees memory in c...i'll think of other things... :P
You can also move the help files in C:system/Help to D. Just create another Help folder in D:system/.
This will help in freeing some memory.
...message storage. Select the mmc!!!!!!!! 8) 😃
Ok, I've moved the help-files (most of them already were on D but I moved the rest) and selected the message storage to D. 😃
I'm a bit cautios about the calendar-file, though. Does it sync ok with outlook when on D? I remember someone having problems.
Nope, everything ok! I've synced everything on my pc 2 days ago and the calendar went fine!!!!!!!!!!!! Try... 😉
😃
:fadein:
I just changed my message files onto the D drive and now I cant seem to use my SMS. when I look at the account settings they do not exist and I can't create them. Does anyone have any ideas?
try a reboot first
My SMS works ok from D now
You have 9210 or 9210i guys?
9210.
And firmware 3.54.
I have 9210 with 4.13
Rebooting does nothing to change the setup. I still can't seem to set up SMSs (mail works fine)
Did it help freeing some memory? I even think it's better to keep really EVERYTHING in the mmc because you don't have anything on c and if something happens to your phone you've got everything handy! 😃 8)
Okay, I managed to sort out the problem, I had to delete all the mail files on D then do the move from C to D. I lost my email access, but it was not hard to put it back
As you mention it Godfather, I am trying to put everything on the D drive. I think I am almost done, need to work out how to move the calender though.
What would be a reasonable memory size for a 9210 C drive to have free.
I have 3mb now. Can anyone suggest how I can get more?
i think that after a format, installing all the sis files from nokia on d: will help a lot. try to install all the files separateley, and not to use tha all_data_bla bla files....it will improve your 92xx behaviour and free memory 😉
I suggest not moving the message storage to the memory card, or rather I suggest being cautious... if you format your phone, the phone will create a new communicator/system/mail folder and looking at the file manager you will see that there's a memorycard/systems/mail folder created when you move the messaging storage... hence there would be 2 mail folders and my 9210i got confused, I dont know why or how, but it got confused and the result was i had to reformat the symbian again since I wasn't able to send or receive SMS.
If you want to maximize your communicator memory, reformat it, you won't be able to save your messages but you can save your contacts by creating a new contacts database and copy pasting your directory, calendar can also be saved in the MMC and then simply import it after formatting. After formatting, install the all_nokia_9210i data.sis you can find it in the installation disk, better yet, pick only the apps that you think you will use such as file manager, calculator, etc... then you can install all the other apps to your MMC, i store my messages to my communicator, same with my contacts and calendar, my communicator free space is 8MB.
those who are reading this, please read the java thread started by me, need help in installing java apps... thanks 😊
It is easy to select the message storage and I have had no problems in using it because once you select mmc you won't have to deal with the problem again! I would like to cancel even all the contacts on the c: drive in order to free more space, but after you do it when you recieve a call or a message or a fax etc...the 9210/9210i won't recognize the number as one of your contacts! Has anyone noticed that? :-?
Please help the newbie 😃. What do I have to do if I want to transfer Calendar to D:? Where is it in C: and where do i put it in D:?
Thanks :silly:
You have to create a new calendar in d and every time you oress calendar key you will go to menu options open calendar and browse untill you find the calendar you created! I suggest to create a new folder where you store your calendar!
No way I'm gonna move my calendar to D if I have to go through all that just to open it. Calendar is what I use the most. It has to open swifthly. So my calendar stays :-?
Ok...it's up to you...I don't know if there's a way of transfering it only in d. That way it would open normally as it opens on c but it would be in your mmc!!!
Did you understand??? :-? 😮
Any ideas if this would be possible?
???

Yup, I did. That's why I only use the contacts database as backup in case I format my phone. I never erase the contacts of drive C.
Any ideas if this would be possible?
I don't think its possible, but then again I'm just a newbie... hehehe 😃
Still I have 8MB free space in my drive C. My contacts, calendar and messages are saved there... Everything else I save/d to D including newly installed software as well as my wav files which are really large btw.
