Nokia N95 Restore Help

Hey There,

I have pretty much followed the instructions on how to update the firmware and the rest of it. I made a back up when I was in firmware 11.2 something. I want to restore the backup I made in firmware 11.2 to the new firm ware which is 20. It starts to restore then it gets stuck on 70% any ideas how i can get it past that?

Any help is much appreciated..

When you say "stuck", do you mean it freezes/crashes or it looks normal but doesn't seem to progress further?

Mine does something similar when I'd set it to restore the contents of my memory card too, but it pauses for ages at about 60%. Give it, like, an hour before declaring it officially frozen 😊

Yeah frozen... i thought i would be able to upgrade it firmware 20 and restore my stuff from it? Guess not may be the only other way is go back to firmware 12.09 try download that from some where and go back to square one I dont have any contacts or messages.

I experienced a problem when restoring a backup after upgrading from v12 to v20. One of them was that I couldn't use videos as ringtones, nor could I assign any ringtone to a contact.

Instead, what I did was restore just Contacts, Messages, Calender and To-do list, then reinstall all my applications manually afterwards.

Hope this helps 😊

I dont have that opetion when i do it ae.. its already grayed out when I go to restore back up..

When you chose to backup your content initially, you were given options on what to backup, ie, messages, contact, setting etc. This is where you should uncheck the "setting" box.

Once you have backed up the content, and reinstall them at a later date, all the info will be transferred back without any choice given. One thing to remember is to NOT choose to backup your setting initially because it has been reported that transfer of setting to a later firmware will results in a lot of hiccups.

Yesterday I've done the same; 1st I completely restored my back-up of v12 to v20, but that was not a good idea: Help-function/application didn't work anymore (out of memory, please close some applications), *#0000# & *#06# the pop-ups didn't appear, etc . . .

Also it's a nice thing, is a clean install of all applications; it's a little work, but you'll have a new phone ! 😉
